Re: Play.com Autumn Sale

I swear some of those Blu-rays have gone up in price. Hardly a sale, seems more like a front for upping certain prices.

Yeah, i swear they up the prices before the sale just so they don't have to drop them as much, still you might find something cheap in there.

A SALE Eh? Now theres a novelty.

THE U.K. Laws that govern the conduct of Sales not only pre-date the present Grate Depression but also the development of Commerce on the Internet.

It is perfectly clear from the sheer number of high street store sales and their amazing frequency that the Powers That Be - Trading Standards - are deeply un-easy about actually enforcing the law as it governs Sales.

As for commercial law as it Governs SALES on Internet sites ??? is Anyone sure of what it is ? Indeed it seems to me that the entire basis of Law in these matters is long overdue for revision but that we will have to wait a long long time before the next wave of Government gets around to re-visiting SALES ... Much More Important things to do.

Plays ' sales ' don't impress me - nor do similar events on just about any site you care to name. From time to time genuine bargains do appear but these do not appear to be related to 'Sales ' and the best bargains are usually mistakes on the part of the dealer.

I have had decent Blu Ray Buys from Play but these were not related to 'Sales ' .. Play.com Autumn Sale ? They Spammed me too with the Announcement ....and no doubt, like my local Department Stores, they are already preparing for Christmas ... must have a look to see if Play is displaying Xmas Trees and decorations yet.

Re: Play.com Autumn Sale

It would be interesting to send an email to some of these outfits asking for an explanation why the items were cheaper before the sale and seeing what their response is.

But who among us WILL DO it ?

It is ever so commonplace to hear the Enraged Cry Of SOMEONE SHOULD DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS !!! It is a good deal less commonplace that that cry will be followed by 'And THAT Someone Is ME!

You could Duplicate the E-Mail to Trading Standards / The Office of Fair Trading and pursue your indignation relentlessly .....

Consumer rights : Directgov - Government, citizens and rights

But the thing is that they were understaffed and overworked even before staff morale was destroyed by the Ever So HEAVY political hints that Pay ...which is not all that High in the lower ranks .. will be frozen by which so Ever Party gets into power next June.

So .. Concern over Consumer Law on Sales .. and it's being utterly out of date that even High St. Stores worked around it years ago as in .. ' Was Advertised for Sale in Our Branch in Ulan Bator only a month or so ago ' .. and then most consumers haven't the least notion of their on line rights.

Take it Up with Your own M.P. since there is a bare possibility that if, he/she/it isn't taking early retirement, Consumer Law and its Rights and Wrongs, and it's being far behind the times will make a nice ' I Feel Your Pain ' line in an appeal for re-election to the Political Gravy Train.

If you are Professionally involved in this area then it may do No Harm to Your CV ... provided that you are careful how you word your Concern.

It doesn't do to up-set the powers that be if your career depends upon their whims.
