Back to the Future II Hover Board Prop Replica

*This is not an actual picture of the replica*

I had to order one, always wanted one as a kid (who didn't!).

After seeing the Ghostbusters trap I expect this will be a great collectable.

Anyone else order one? If not and you want to get your skates on the pre-orders close on the 20th of March.

MattyCollector.com Online Store - Back to the Future

Video's talking about the board and the work going into it.

Pre orders also get a smaller replica board.
Here is an interview link about the board, also with some highlights and pic's below of the smaller board.

Quote:
http://www.actionfigureinsider.com/m...oard-interview
Another in-depth Mattycollector.com BTTF Hoverboard interview with pics of the 6" Scale Hoverboard with handle bars

Some highlights

AFi: How how will the sound effects work? Will the board have built in speakers?

SN: We actually are using top of the line tech here with a new speaker system that turns the board itself into the speaker. This avoided having to have a “grill” or speaker holes in the board and ensure it is screen accurate. It will also have motion detectors so it will know if it is sliding forward, backward, or side to side. It will also shut off automatically when picked up just like in the film. Put it on the ground and it hmmmmms to life again!

Universal Studios has been an amazing partner and provided all of the original sound files to ensure accuracy.

AFi: Will the Board come with a stand?

SN: We are actually working on this to see if we can include a stand that will simulate hovering. Not locked in but we all want to make this happen. We also want to include a non numbered certificate of authenticity so you know this is an actual Mattel board.

AFi: As I understand it, you are not including the handlebars with the 1:1 prop replica?

SN: Yeah, we looked into this. Including the handlebars would have raised the price 50-70 bucks and we wanted to keep this as close to $100.00 as possible (final price for pre-order is $120.00). If the board does well we might do the handlebars as a separate item in 2013. Always a possibility as we did build the “hole” for the bars into the board so if we ever wanted to offer the bars as a separate item we could do that down the road. Time will tell (no pun intended!)

AFi: Does this mean a 6” line of action figures of Marty and Doc are coming? You know BTTF fans would love that?

SN: Oh, as a fan myself I sure do know that! We have tried quite a few scenarios to do this and it just hasn’t worked out from a financial stand point. Both Marty and Doc from any of the films are a 100% tool with really no shared parts. One of the reasons we can do 100% tool’d figures in a line like MOTUC or GB is because we can bank those figures with other partial tool figures. For BTTF you are talking all 100% tool for every figure and that makes it a bit harder. We looked into doing station figures as well but really it just wasn’t crunching right. That is one reason we are doing the 6” board. In addition to being an incentive to pre-order, it is as close to a 6” figure line as we are going to get right now.

AFi: The current “prototype” has been under fire as not being as accurate as possible. How do you address this?

SN: Oh boy! Yup. Of course the proto is not perfect. This was a dummy model we made very quick for NYTF. We are well aware many details are off such as the color of the green stripe and the pink background sticker. This is one reason it was great to have actual screen used boards to use as reference. Our goal is to make this as accurate as possible.

---------------------------------
I think the following packaging concept is a cool idea from Mattel.

AFi: What will the packaging look like?

SN: We have not locked that down yet, but I can tell you it won’ t have the BTTF logo. This is not an item from the movie, but rather we are treating this like it is from the real world and Mattel is actually making it. I really want to call out things like “Hover scooter also available* *not actually available” as a cross sell and have a burst that says “does not work on water”. I’m also working with legal to see if we can put all the TM dates as 2015.

AND ONE MORE UPDATE! The following was just added to the Hoverboard pre-order page on MattyCollector.com:

“Mattel proudly sponsors the Michael J. Fox Foundation and will be working with them to auction off a limited number of Michael J. Fox autographed Hoverboards this fall with all proceeds benefiting the Michael J. Fox Foundation. If you would like to donate or learn more about the foundation and how you can help, please click the banner below.”

Had my eye on this for awhile now and finally ordered it yesterday

The mock up they did was putting me off a bit but think they will come good with the final product plus the 1/6 scale board is a nice bonus

I love Back to the Future! I think I'll get the Flux capacitor, though, I've been wanting one of those since I first saw one online that someone had made.

I think when you consider this is the same price as the Ghost Trap was I think they are taking us for a ride, should be $60 at most, that's why I am giving it a miss.

When you take in to account the shipping and customs charges and Royal Mail charge you will be looking at closer to £100 for what is just a skateboard without wheels and makes a sound.

Fair point.
Unfortunately BTTF is far more important to me than GB. The trap was cool as hell and if I had more expendable income id have got one. The hover board trumps it in my list of things I want, I just hope this will be the only release of it.

Let be honest both items will just be sat on a shelf 99% of the time regardless of what they do.

Skates on? Once you've got your Hover Board you won't need them

But on a serious note, I may have missed it, how many are they planning on producing?

Not sure that they have said yet. I think there will be a chance to get one when they are made but you wont get the mini board with it.

In line with all the other items that Matty.com produce they Never disclose how many of each item they have made. Some very popular lines sell out in minutes while some other lesser lines may last a couple of weeks.

You will be able to order one on release day, but will miss out on the mini small board fro 6" figures, no real biggie as they do not own the rights to produce Marty or Doc figures.

Personally not going to bother to not worth the money, if it was half the price then maybe. Just because the Ghostbusters props sold for $120, does not mean they should price all items like that, you got more bang for your buck with the $120 Ghost Trap Prop.

Its not as screen accurate as they promised, a shame.
Ill wait till I have it in hand before making a judgement.
Someone who has held it did say its very heavy.

This is shipping out on Monday. There will also be a few going on sale too.

Here is a review of the final board.

Mattel Back to the Future II Hoverboard Prop Replica Video Review - YouTube

I'm looking forward to it a bit more now. Not looking forward the the inevitable customs bill.

I was interested in this when they announced it, but ever since then I've found Matty to be constantly letting there customers down. Having seen that this is priced at $130 + shipping + import fees to UK I think it's well over priced, I'd say it's worth £40 at most.

I'm gonna give it a miss, maybe it will appear again in one of there sales at a cheaper price, then I might give it a punt.

I'm off with Mattel. Rather than getting a shipment e-mail I got one to say my order has been cancelled.

I phoned them and they said it was because the card I used for the purchase was expired.
They had mailed me to say it was due to expire and could I e-mail the new card details a month ago which I did! On top of that as a backup I even added another card to my Mattel account in case they messed up they could use an alternative payment.

Did they think to try that, no. Instead I'm told the order has been canceled and they can't do anything. I would need to re-order form the site at the higher price and with no mini board. At that point I asked to speak to a supervisor.

Went through the whole thing again and am now waiting to see if she can sort something out with the processing department.

How ridiculous that they did not mail me first telling about the issue and trying to fix it rather than just canceling the order!

I hope they can sort it out or I will be sending an e-mail to someone higher.

Well after e-mails back and forth and them asking for my details yet again and for me to phone them (to which I refused due to incurring more cost), I got an e-mail last night with a link to a sale page where the board was up for $1000 and I had a code to enter to bring it to the correct pre-order price.
I have re-ordered, lets hope this is the end of it.

Not yet. Something tells me the sticker application will be the main issue. I will not be happy if mine has bubbles.

So glad I cancelled mine now after seeing some of the pictures of the sticker application!

Foreign objects under the sticker
Air bubbles
Creases in the sticker

And the best one was... Tape holding two parts of the sticker together!

Was just reading that DpM, Lol.

$130 + shipping and you still have to supply your own batteries, not good.

I hope they don't mess up the Ecto-Goggles prop for next year.

Be interesting to see if Mattel respond to that.
It's a crying shame that they had Bob Gale on hand for help and advice and they messed up so bad.

Still interested to see it in hand, I must be mad, lol.
