Good to see some original Alien War Glasgow vets here ... we made it ... phew!!
I remember having heard about it through the grapevine, up in NE Scotland at the time working at Ardersier oil yard ... holidays came up, was single .. loved the Aliens franchise so thought I'd trek down to Glasgow ... boy was it worth it!!!
It was underneath the arches then, with the train station above, the whole shaking noise when you were inside the make believe complex, when a real train went overhead unseen added to the audio effect ... quite unintentionally I'm sure
I recall some worried parents allowed two young kids to go with me, the parents asked me to take them in (complete strangers, but that's how friendly Glasgow is) The show had no rating then and nobody really knew what to expect.
My God, these kids were clinging on to me and when we had the first encounter with the Alien .. I found myself involuntarily pushing them in front of me to the escape route the Marine was showing us ... I looked back again at the Xenomorph in the darkness (my heart was racing) but it had vanished into the darkness amongst loud gunfire from my protective Marines.
The proximity counter scene they did was the best though, just like Aliens ... we were supposedly in a lift, but the Marine was counting off the proximity to the alien ... it was getting closer ... closer, then there it was again, loud deafening gunfire .. then running through into daylight, handing those damn kids who clung on to me to their parents
Very intense show ... you had to try it to appreciate it.
Tried later shows in Aberdeen, not quite the same IMHO.
