Collectables / Memorabilia v Your Other Half

Just wondered how/in what ways do you make collectables/movie memorabilia 'acceptable' to your other half? Currently I do it because I display the stuff at my weekday work home that is 500 miles away from my real home. I am keen to maybe display some of the items at home proper, and just wondered if anyone had come up with a wife friendly option?

I have been buying up quite a few Corgi 'Aviation Archive' Diecast aircraft (which are great, well modelled and accurate) as part of my inevitable mid-life crisis. But I can't see anyway I can make them acceptable given the current zero tollerance policy. It doesn't help that ever since she saw The 40 Year Old Virgin she has been drawing parallels with my work flat which I find a little harsh as I played a (small) part in creation of the kids!

My wife has no problem with it as long as they are all kept in one place rather than spread around the house.

Same, as soon as we moved to a bigger house I snagged one of the bedrooms in our 4 bed, she gets a guest room, my daughter has her room and we have the main bedroom (for ahem sleep!) - everyones a winner.

She doesnt encourage me but she doesnt moan about it either, leaves me alone and I think she quietly likes it - although she would never admit it

Mine are on display in the front room in a detolf. Room is running out unless I over crowd it, she has said there will not be another cabinet. Ill have to get creative and come up with another display idea
She is not a fan of the items but does not moan about them. Im sure the more that apear the more it will become an issue.

Re: Collectables / Memorabilia v Your Other Half

Got stuff all over the house, 4 Detolfs in the Lounge, 5 Detolfs in my office/Man room and a few bits in the spare room. The Mrs doesn't seem to mind that much, To be honest her shoes and handbags seem to clutter the whole bloody house up anyway

Re: Collectables / Memorabilia v Your Other Half

I get away with it.

It only cost me a Laptop to bribe her and get Hulk PF in the Living room along with....others

When one of the brats move out I'll take over their room though. Running out of space I think.

Re: Collectables / Memorabilia v Your Other Half

Mine are currently in the living room (most are in a detolf, the rest on some shelving) but when we finally get round to redecorating the living room and buying new furniture, they will be moving into one of the spare bedrooms as I will be able to fit 3 or 4 detolfs in there.

Re: Collectables / Memorabilia v Your Other Half

Ive got one GG kneeling Vader in living room a detolf in hallway downstairs, 2 on the landing upstairs and my mans room is full of stuff. TBH shes the one who buys me stuff anyway, she got me a the Red Skull vs Cap America dio for my 40th totally out of the blue. She does get a say on which ones I display out of the mans room and for some reason has taken a shine to my SS PF of the Thing

Re: Collectables / Memorabilia v Your Other Half

My Mrs likes Harry Potter, so I bought her a few Harry Potter Gentle Giant Busts, which she loves & ever since then she been collecting them & now has all the Harry Potter Busts.

Pleased to say my Mrs dosen't mined, we have a dedicated Home Cinema Room in which all my Busts / Statues are displayed, problem is that I have nearly filled every shelf now, so will have to soon start making decissions on which one's I want to be displayed, the other problem I have is that I have a few 1:1's (Hulk & Spiderman) that are just too big to put anywhere.

See if there's a theme that may interest your Mrs???

Since those early days the family now come with me to various shows / exhibitions & we have manged to meet some of the big names & pick up there authograpgh's.

Good luck

PS, Try & find some where suitable to hide the boxes out of sight as they can soon start taking up space which is un-sightly & may be a good reason for your other half not to be happy, mine get boxed up in the loft out of the way.

Re: Collectables / Memorabilia v Your Other Half

We have an agreement. While the living room essentially houses my home cinema kit, it looks like a proper 'adult' living room. My collectables and discs, etc, are housed in a spare room, all lovingly displayed within and on top of bookcases.

Any women I've been involved with, I've been lucky enough to land geek princesses, so it hasn't been that hard to convince them regarding my habits. All my habits...
