A cautious tale

Hi everybody,
Recently won a sideshow terminator 1:1 t800 bust on ebay not saying who from but be careful it was a uk seller from Ramsgate.

I won the bust with best offer but before I could pay for the item through ebay and paypal the seller sent me a money transfer invoice. Not be sure about it I clicked pay now on ebay and followed the correct method protecting the seller and my self. The seller stated that the funds was pending and therefore returned the the funds.

The seller then sent me another money transfer invoice. I used the link in ebay again. It was also returned.

Being a bit stupid I eventually paid with his link it all went through normal. The seller stated that it was pending and should take 24hrs to clear. All these payments were paid by credit card.

The next day I went into my paypal and found that the seller was not a registered user anymore. After contacting my credit card, paypal and ebay I got my funds back. He doesn't answer my emails.

What am I to think?

Not much really except you live and learn and im sure you wont fall for it again, notify eBay and leave negative feedback - thats all you can do I guess

They closed the account by the morning never had the chance to leave negative feedback. I believe they also use the freak boards. Gam another avforums member has had problems dealing with them.

although that was a deal going the other way that was starting to drag out a little...... they seemed genuine enough to me and I had been watching the bust in question and it is possible there is a logical explanation for funds having a pending status for a newish paypal member (ie not verified) but I did start to have a few concerns the last couple of days and due to lack of communication in that time in that I'm not sure what was happening with payment as well as chaggs dealings and also the fact I no longer need to sell the items as I've found room for them I've pulled out of that deal...... possibly your money was meant for me, please send to my paypal address @........

but at the start you did everthing right to protect yourself on ebay, going though the ebay checkout and then useing your credit card (not 100% sure but maybe another reason it was pending status, if their pp account wasn't verified?)...... but the only way I would have clicked on a transfer money invoice would be if it was linked to the item in question and not just a generic invoice

at least you didn't loose any money and had minimal hassle, It's just unfortunate you never got the bust but its better to be extra safe then sorry

Re: A cautious tale

Keep yourself safe next time. Make sure you pay via paypal and nothing else. I have herd all sorts of horror stories people wanting payment though western union for example. Just always make sure you pay though paypal.
