Sdcc?

I was just wondering would I be right in saying that the SDCC is like the Holy Grail of conventions/shows for collectors?

I have never been to one before seeing as I am new to this collecting (Aug 09) and am thinking about trying to get to next years one but are there other ones I should also think about maybe trying to attend and if so why?

Thanks in advance for any replies and sorry if this is a stupid question.

Re: Sdcc?

it's mainly a comic show or at least started out as one. these days it's as much film and manga related as comics. you can buy most stuff there and there are several toy companies and sellers as well as dealers. depends what you want out of it really. if you only go to see one thing you'll have time to kill as it lasts a while.
there are licensing shows too but not sure if they are open to the public. there are manga cons/festivals as well if that's your thing.
there's a big show in NY in oct next year, cheaper and faster to get to than SD, not as big though but getting bigger each year.

Re: Sdcc?

SDCC is the ultimate of all conventions.... comics, movies, TV shows and collectibles. I'll go there one year.

The Expo is (IMO) only worth going to if you are a HUGE fan of anime. I went to it this year and if it wasn't for Linda Hamilton or Joe Morton I would've been very miffed for paying my entry fee as it's just anime and that's pretty much it.

I'd recommend either the London Comic-Con or one of the Collectormania events personally

You've got Collectormania London which is 28th & 29th November, then it's Collectormania 16 in Milton Keynes which is May next year

Re: Sdcc?

SDCC is a convention and inside it some dealers/people sell second hand items.
