F1 closed season chit chat

So Alonso has gone from VodMcMerc , with RedBull or Renault the likely destinations . Sports worst kept secret

Re: F1 closed season chit chat

I hope he just gets back to be a racing driver next year and stops acting like such a bellend. Red Bull seems like an odd choice, I thought Webber and Coulthard were both signed for next year? Bound to be a German driver going to fill Alonso's vacated seat at McLaren though it would be great if Red Bull did a swap with Webber for Alonso, with Webber taking the McLaren seat. Would be a great move for Webber and maybe give him a car that can demonstrate just how good he is. Surely McLaren won't go with two young drivers?

Re: F1 closed season chit chat

I've just heard someone say that there could be a clause in Alonso's contract saying he can't join one of the main teams so big speculation about him going to Red Bull.

Re: F1 closed season chit chat

The exact phrase was that there could be a clause in his divorce contract stating that he can't join a manufacturer backed team.

Re: F1 closed season chit chat

I'm with you on that one.

Most f1 drivers would complain and bitch to get what they want.

But to threaten your boss and toss your toys out of the pram if they won't call you no.1 is a bit rich. The guy needed to prove.

And ultimately he did. The result was not how if envisiged it I imagine!!!

Re: F1 closed season chit chat

What about Button going, it would be an all English pairing for an English team.
It would also show how good Button really is, it may just be the chance he is craving.

Re: F1 closed season chit chat

What is it about Webber, ITV thinks he's the best thing since sliced bread, I just can't see it. As for Button it ain't happening is it.

I can see Mclaren going for Rosberg or Sutil.

As for Alonso I would like to see him off.

People say Schumi got his own way but Alonso has taken it to a whole new level.

Where's me pram?

Re: F1 closed season chit chat

Well thats it. Button bought himself out of the Williams contract, thinking Honda would be a better bet!

I think Williams had a pretty good year with Rosberg & Wurz. Also Natterjack had a good run at Brazil. Possible signing for next year??

Re: F1 closed season chit chat

Flavio Briatore is the key too the market, as he manages Hokey Kokey & Webber.

So 1 possible scenario, for you;

Hokey Kokey to Mclaren?
Webber to Renault?
Alonso to Red Bull?

Odd fact here, one of the lawn mowers that won the 12 hour race a few years ago had parts on it made in the Mclaren factory...

Re: F1 closed season chit chat

I read on BBC sport that they reckon Alonso will go to some team (poss Red Bull) for 1 season and then after that go to Ferrari. They seemed to think Ferrari will buy Massa out of his contract to make space for Alonso.

Personally I cant see Alonso and Kimi working well together as they both would want to be #1 driver and Alonso can start his whinging all over again!

Re: F1 closed season chit chat

Great news that Rosberg is staying put, he drives like a real racer and Williams (of old) always loved real racers such as Mansell and Nico's old man.

His driving was excellent this year in a non manufacturer team, his performance in Brazil was some of the most aggressive stuff I've seen for ages.

Reckon Alonso will head to Renault if they pay up, otherwise he is off to Honda in place of Ruebens B or he will end up taking the Yen from Toyota.

PS any one on here talking about Webber? He was a make weight before in a deal. I think he had signed at Renault yet Flavio moved him to Williams to accomodate someone else, can't remember who though - Button or maybe Alonso.

He was test driver @ Renault early 2001.He left to drive for Minardi in 2002 season,Button and Trulli where Renault drivers at the time.

Ok my PERSONAL view is Heikki Kovalainen to Mclaren,Nelson Piquet JNR and Alonso in the Renault.(Alonso offered 3 year deal, with get out clause if car not upto standard of challeging for WC.)
Piquet was walking around yesterday with the biggest grin on his face we are all convinced he has the drive next season.

edit, Fisi to be driving taxi's somewhere near manchester.

Re: F1 closed season chit chat

Great point about Piquet, he will be a dead cert at Renault following Fisi's nightmare year of being well beaten by Heiki K. Tool old, too slow and too inconsistent.

Saw Heiki at Race of Champions in Paris December 2004 when he beat Michael Schumacher in the Ferrari 360 event, he went mental and jumped up and down on roof of the car for 10 minutes. He was pretty special and I was amazed he struggled so much at the start of this year, but he was really strong in the second half of this season.

I don't feel that enthused about the 2008 season yet.
Where ever Alonso ends up, i hope he can put a lid on his whinging.
