What I love about Cal is, he don't get star struck, unlike some riders. If there's an oppertunity to stick one on the inside of someone like Lorenzo, Rossi, Stoner, etc, he'll do it.

Repuation don't mean anything to him, and I love it.

Agreed.
Toseland was the same, to be fair.
Remember Rossi moaning Toseland was 'too aggressive' in his first race at Qatar?
Quite something to hear, from someone who's no stranger to the odd bit of 'aggressive' riding himself.

I think that's what helped Toseland a great deal in his first season. That big pre-season crash he had really knocked his confidence. I guess learning new tyres didn't help things either (but that can't be used as an excuse).

Rossi is one of the most aggressive riders out there. Motegi this year is testament to that.

You see Lorenzo's comments recently on how 'he made Rossi crash'. He did have it easy this year. And if he can win the Championship next season, with a fit again Rossi, Stoner having fun on the Honda, Spies on the workd bike, etc, than fair play to him. Maybe people will say that he earnt that one and beat the best. A lot of people are saying he only one the title because of the Rossi crash and Stoner losing the front all the time.

Only idiots or cry-baby Rossi/Stoner fans would think that.
Everyone else sees Lorenzo's incredible 2010 achievements for that they are.

Lorenzo will do one of two things next season;

1) Dominate every single race
2) Throw it down the road like the Lorenzo of old.

I'm 50/50 in thinking that the pressure may get to Lorenzo next season. He's No.1, so he's everybody's target. Plus he's also Yamaha's No.1 rider, so it's down to him in which direction the M1 will go in. Be interesting to see how he copes.

I don't see why you think it's going to be one or the other.
As far as I can see, he's got the maturity to do whatever's required to win a championship.
If that means settling for third one week, I think he'll do it.

If things don't start going his way, he may start to get frustrated and make silly mistakes.

Irrespective of all the psychological warfare between these guys(and Lorenzo is almost as good as Rossi in that respect now),there is no doubt that even a fit Rossi, and a Stoner that wasn't falling off, would have had their hands full trying to hold onto Lorenzo this year.

For sure he wouldn't have won by the same margin,as the others would have taken some points off,but he'd still have won,and anyone saying otherwise is deluding themselves.

Apparently, Jenny Gow's future on the BBC is uncertain as stories have been going around that Suzi Perry could be coming back.

Got nothing against Jenny Gow, but Suzi Perry is far better at it. And also better eye candy.

Paris Hilton is sponsoring a 125cc team apparently/unfortunately.

The Riders are going to get some stick! The livery.

Sponsorship is tax deductable, for starters.
So if she ploughs money into a team, it's money she doesn't have to pay tax on.
This is why big corporations sponsor things.
Partly exposure, partly a way of getting rid of money before the tax man cometh.

Having Paris Hilton sponser a team will brin more colour to the paddock next season. Wonder if she'll make it to at least one race next season.

Apparently she's contractually obligated to be at four races throughout the season. I suspect one of them will end up being Indianapolis as the 125's don't race at Laguna Seca.

Wait and see how long it lasts!.....if she starts having to plough some serious cash into it,she may well lose interest.

Indy, Mugello, Silverstone and one of the Spain races I'm thinking she'll make an appearance. Is it wrong of me to find her not bad in that outfit?

BTW, is Paris Hilton actually putting any of her own money into it at all?
The team is actually going to be called Supermartxé-Paris Hilton.
Supermartxé are a "major party promoter".
Perhaps she's just the face of Supermartxé.

Well...she won't be the first or last "celeb" to plough some cash into racing, but overall, they don't stay the course.

Still...should provide some entertainment.

Didn't Michael Jordan have a race team in the AMA Superbike series?

Michael Jordan sponsors a team in AMA.
Clarence Seedorf (footballer) sponsors/ered a 125cc team.
Antonio Banderas sponsored the Jack & Jones 125cc team recently.
Closer to home, Alan Smith (footballer) sponsored a British Racer.
And going back to when I raced, the late great Stuart Adamson (Big Country) sponsored a few Scottish racers.

Wouldn't happen to have been a Yamaha by any chance?

Like I said,a lot of celebs have sponsored teams, but how many keep doing it over a significant period?

For many,as you've said,it's a tax dodge of sorts, and for others,a fad,but very few do it because they want to stay in it for the long term,or out of genuine love for the sport or country(as may have been the case with Stuart Adamson I would imagine).

There are exceptions like Paul Newman perhaps, but he also had a huge amount of outside sponsorhip once the team was running.

I guess another way of looking at it is that winning, even at 125 level,is going to be seriously expensive.

Yes he did, running Suzuki and as much as he enjoyed it he said you didn't really have any chance winning without factory support or being a factory team (this was during the Spies and Mladin Yoshimura Suzuki days). He has shown an interest in entering MotoGP, but it has never gone farther than that. There has been some good interviews with him on Superbike Planet's site over the years.
