motorola v8 unlocked from orange but still has its software

Hi,

I recently bought a Motorola V8 Razr that was locked to Orange (I am on Vodafone) and got it unlocked.

The problem is that it works fine for calls/text but i want to set it up for my googlemail account like i did on my Motorola v3i but it wont allow me to add imap and other settings.

The interface still seems geared up only to allow an orange email address.

I am presuming the same will apply to going onto the web too as that doesn't work either.

Anyway of resetting the software or ideas??

Thanks

The process of removing the Orange firmware and replacing with the original Motorola Firmware is called Debranding. Doing a search reveals plenty of instructions and companies that will do it. However, you will void your warranty if you do this.

Is it safe enough though? I suffer from the curse of 3 branding. They disable the manual network selection in their phones. Not a problem if you live in England where the only other networks you're likely to pick up are the other UK networks which you're barred on anyway.

When you live in N. Ireland though, you're screwed. I'm out a fortune because my phone keeps switching to Irish networks, (not 3 IRL of course) and I get stung for a fortune in roaming. I just changed to a Sony Ericsson Z750i and I want to get it debranded but don't want to kill the damn thing either.

Its not a process to undertake lightly. However, people have managed to do this successfully. It would be a good idea to thoroughly understand the process before attempting.

Particularly, for the SonyEricsson there are sites which will automate the process for you.
