The Motorola Droid / Milestone

This is a phone which seems to be adopting a stealth approach - hardly anyone has heard of it! - but which should be arriving imminently (in america, anyway). On the face of it, the rumoured specs sound rather good: Android version 2.0, a decent sized screen (3.7") with better-than-WVGA resolution (854x480) and a proper 16:9 aspect ratio, a Cortex A8 processor (similar to the one in the iPhone 3GS), and an autofocus camera with image stabilisation and dual-LED flash.

Motorola Droid's website published a bit early, with specs galore (update: video)

Re: The Motorola Droid

I really want this phone, I think it looks great and android 2.0 is look very promising especially with googles free turn by turn gps. The only problem is that there is no UK release date, and I'm on O2 who do not stock Motorola phones.

I really can't understand why this thread is receiving so little response. The phone is awesome and appears to wipe the floor with the iphone/HTC HD 2 etc...

how is it wiping teh floor of anything? it looks ugly personaly and the UI etc is the same on my htc magic.

edit: doesnt even do multi touch. its not even on iphones league let alone a HD2

The HD2 stomps all over this phone. 4.3inch screen, 1ghz snapdragon processor, better looks imo and what seems to be a far superior front end UI too.

The Droid has a bigger screen than the iphone, double the screen resolution, 5 mb camera with flash, can run more than one application at a time unlike the iphone.

And actually the European version of this phone includes multi touch with pinch zoom.

Well jumping in here it has a keyboard for a start which the iPhone and HD2 don't have and is a deal breaker for me.

Plus I have owned many WinMo phones, and whilst I love the functionality, not one of them has been a great phone. The number of weird things happening whilst answering/making calls is enough to put me off WinMo until 7 comes out. In the last year i've owned a Blackberry Bold, Nokia E71, and HTC Hero. None of them have displayed any issues in a week of use as a phone than any of my WinMo phones did in one day.

Re: The Motorola Droid

Nothing wrong with Windows Mobile phones imo, ive owned several and never had any constant crashes, in fact ive had more crashes on my iphone then i ever did on winmo handsets.

As for motorola well they have a renowned history of making crap handsets and i certainly would never buy another one. Sure it has Andriod but guaranteed the build quality will be poor at best.

That's interesting, as the one thing Moto can do well is build a solid handset. Unfortunately their terrible, outdated software lets the side down and therefore they haven't produced anything interesting for years.

But the hardware is better than most manufacturers, very solid construction. At least in their mid-high end mobiles.

So put their hardware under an exciting mobile OS and you have huge potential.

this is why they have taken to android.

If motorola can still build quality looking handsets but with the android software then they may still have a chance to get back into the market.

But to be honest the latest motorola handsets do not look very nice at all

The Dext and the Milestone (the Droid).

but spec wise the droid does seem very very impressive.

The reviews i've checked out seem to suggest that the camera is the weaklink though..

depending on the prices I may be tempted...

I will be purchasing this on December 7th if there is still no word on the HTC Dragon. HTC have really dropped the ball by not having an Android 2.0 phone in the shops for Christmas. The HTC HD2 should have been Android 2.0

Well it's your loss HTC. Good on Motorola!

This is the processor that comes with the Milestone - Arm® Cortex™ A8 processor 550 mHz. Does anyone know how it compares to the HTC HD2 processor the Qualcomm Snapdragon QSD2850 1 GHz?
