A car wash will scratch your paint work to pieces, and the next harshest thing you can use is a sponge.

I've never thought a Karcher or the like to be that bad for the paint work tbh. Most of the time I just hose the car over, wash and then use the pressure wash after.

Invest in a wash mitt rather than use a sponge, you'll do far less damage to the paint
