I tend to go 'retro' with my dream cars too.
Like a relatively humble (but concours condition) Escort RS2000.
The rear wheel drive/recaro/tennis racker headrest model from 'The Professionals'.
Back when cars were fun, and you were allowed to slide around without nanny electronics treating you like a learner.

And a Sunbeam Lotus.
And a Lotus Cortina.
And Triumph TR8.

RS2000 Mk2 Custom in black: Call me in about a year and I might have mine finished and ready for sale...my dream car (as in one that I can afford when I'm awake ) is a 4.5 litre TVR Chimaera so the RS is going to be sold to pay for one. I was a bit disapointed with myself for not being ready to sell it already, but the RS seems to be going up in value and the TVRs coming down, so win win if I wait a little. I might even get to 'slide around without nanny electronics' hopefully on a track day before it goes.

Unlike the rather boring A1 FSI I have today as a courtesy car...not enough power, but still only got about 34mpg compared to my usual 44mpg on the same trip/same speed in my regular 'shed' the A4 Avant.

Do drop me a PM when/if that happens.
You never know, my financial position might improve sufficiently to get one of my dream motors.

Aparently decent examples go for well over £10K these days, so I'd better get it finished. I recently asked on an Escort forum how much it would fetch part done and got told about £4k. Ironically my parents paid about that for it back in 1980. I couldn't sell it on here as technically I'd be profiteering having paid them £1k for it on the understanding that if I sell it I'd give them half of whatever it fetches. I'll certainly PM you to send a link to any advert though if that's OK.

I own my dream car. There are plenty of super expensive super cars that I'd buy if I won the lottery, but that's not going to happen so I haven't put much thought into it beyond "That's a nice car". I used to think there wasn't a single part of an Aston Martin DB9 that looked bad, until they introduced the clear rear lights.

Anyway, my car is a Fisher Fury. Dad and I went to be nosy when the owner of the business was selling, about a month after I passed my driving test. I've wanted one ever since. After saving as much as I could, I bought a second hand one earlier this year. It only has a 110bhp Ford Crossflow engine, but that's enough to get me started, and it's still pretty nippy being only around 600kg. When I get back to the UK, I'm planning on swapping a 2.0 Duratec for around 180-200bhp and better fuel economy.

Yes, it's a kit car, and yes it has the quality you would expect from that. But it's relatively cheap for the performance and it's great fun. I think it looks good, and as far as kit cars go I think it's pretty inoffensive.

Another vote for the Honda NSX - this time a facelift (2002-2005) Type S. If I was being really pedantic, I'd prefer this colour scheme, but definitely the seats from the Type S.

A Type R would be ok, as a substitute......

If money were really no object, then it would have to be a McLaren F1

With hint of possibility : VW Scirocco R
Probably no chance, even years down the line when they become vaguely affordable : Audi R8 Spyder
Things dreams are made of : Zonda

Maintenance might be too bad as it's a well built and reliable Honda and not some flakey Italian jobbie

Having a few acquaintances with these, I can confirm it's a very expensive car to run. Even moreso if you pick up a £12k one which is likely to be in a right state.

Finding a good one is very difficult indeed.

A chap I know works in a Honda dealer and recently wrote this:

Quote:
I remember a particularly slow day a number of years ago when I added up the cost of all the NSX components on EPC. Came to a whisker over £443,000 in the end - mind you each alu panel (wing/Quarter,etc) is around 2k + vat...

Don't clout the front wheels too hard either, a wheel is £1300 + vat, hub £1500, lower arm £1000 and a steering rack £7907

Semi-Realistically - Porsche 911 C4S
Dreaming a bit - Mercedes SL63 (but the 6.3l only! Without that noise and drama it's just a Mercedes)
Totally dreaming - Veyron

I would like a DBS but I don't think it's all that practical - so for practicalities sake I would settle for a V12 Vantage, a Rapide and for the colder days a Range Rover. I would also enjoy an old Aston V8 perhaps an Oscar India.

More than likely I'll end up with a bloody montego or sommin.

Currently it's an Aston Martin One-77. Magical car, beautifully engineered inside and out! 777bhp naturally aspirated engine! Better looking then a Veryon.
Along with a Jaguar XJ Supersport short wheel base and a Range Rover Evoque. I think.

An utterly realistic as in I am going too buy one, the new Fiesta ST when it comes out, in white.

And as for cars that no one has ever heard of but are stunning total nutter animals, the Mercedes CLK GTR and the Jaguar XJR-15 which could obliterate the XJ220! Both cars extremely rare and utterly crazy. Not sure if I would be man enough to drive them actually !!!!

1) BMW McLaren F1
2) Ford GT40
3) Original series Knight Rider

Saw the F1 once on the road and I was close enough to touch it as it went passed. I was about 14 years old or so (so about 20 years ago) and I didn't know what it was but years later I identified it and fell in love all over again!!!

That's exactly what I was going to post! The sound that v8 makes is quite unlike any modern car. Without all the restrictions on exhaust noise and such like, the crackles and bangs those old vantages made on the over-run were nothing short of spine tingling!

Dream car would be a Ferrari F40 for me or a Koenigsegg CCX-R

However, in the real world, I'd be quite happy with a decent supercharged or turbo'd MX5 (I've actually already owned one so I know what its like) or perhaps a Caterham, Elise / Exige or TVR.

Just don't go anywhere near potholes with those classic alloys.
Classic is the style name, BTW.
