I have as a matter of fact.

I just can't abide the attitude you have to other posters though. If you're happy to give abuse, check your own house is in order first.

A golden rule I have is treat people how you wish to be treated yourself; maybe you could learn something from that.

Why do YOU think that it's sneaky when they are doing what they are paid to do catching speeders?

Incidentally you have just registered, insulted 3 or 4 people, 2 of which are serving police officers (one of which is a traffic cop) who are probably in the best position to offer advice (and have done).
Yet you still haven't explained why people's views would change if they knew you. And I guess why you are better/worse than other speeders out there.

Sure you are not a troll? Just asking?

Sorry if I've picked this up wrong here I Have No Luck, but why would you join an AV forum and your only posts are about you thinking you've been caught by the police for speeding?

If you are caught, you are caught. You will find out soon enough.

I was thinking the same - probably another user who doesn't want their identity to be known, or someone that has been banned. With that sort of attitude it wouldn't surprise me if it was the latter. Either way, it makes for good entertainment how stupid someone can be

To lighten the mood a little, I know a biker who was speeding towards a camera van, but slammed the brakes on before he reached the van and 'paddled' the bike backwards until he was out of sight.
No front numberplate, no sight of the rear one, no charge!
I'm not excusing his speeding in any way, but you've got to admire the ingenuity.

Well to be fair, in his first post he said he was in the wrong and simply asked whether it was true that they should have had a mobile sign up.

Then everyone piled in to have a pop at him... so it's not that surprising how the thread progressed.

Just to say there are DfT guidlines regarding the placement of cameras and signing requirements. It does say in that "Enforcement cameras are well signed and highly visible". However, it has an arse covering clause at the end that says "Some discretion is allowed to enforce at sites where there is genuine public concern about speeding and also at roadworks "

What about mobile ones? The last one I saw was on a right hand bend tucked in behind a tree with only enough of the van showing so the camera poking out of the rear offside window could catch you As a model citizen I was of course doing 29.5 mph

To clarify, an officer with a speed gun (usually an LTI2020), including mobile speed vans has to 'form an opinion' that a vehicle is travelling in excess of the speed limit before they do a speed check.
In other words they are not allowed to just click away at every vehicle in the hope of catching one speeding (fishing as its known).
So if they are bid behind a bush and not able to see vehicles how can they 'form an opinion'?
The chances are they may actually be checking vehicles coming or going towards them. Or they may not be operating correctly and you would have grounds to appeal.

Ok because your a copper you can insult me now , arent you taught to keep the peace??

Ok the van location was around 300 metres up the road after an uphill left hand bend to me and prob many other drivers that day could'nt see the trap coming unless you can see through hedges and houses, i was clearly asking the question to the Great /Not so great (barr a few) British Public
if it was legal. you tell me if it was sneaky or not in you opinion.

In my eyes yes the copper (if you dont mind me calling a forum full of them that) is only doing his job and gets given his set tasks for the day.
after all you've all gotta earn your bread.

I am unclear on the rules so i put it out there, yes i have just registered am i going to get a ticket for that also?

I would like to say i have gained information for posting this thread but apart from you erm PCTHUG (nice name by the way if you are a real copper PCTHUG why on earth would you call yourself that am i missing something here a joke maybe?) giving me a little piece of information and insight in the attitude the police have on a law abiding citizen who made a small mistake and is asking advice on the LAW, but i have not.

Speeders !!!

You write like i am part of a group of sinners, i understand there are alot of idiots on the road but "most" motorcyclist are some of the best motorist in the country because they have to be for their own safety. I am not going to justify whether i am better or worse than any other speeder because there is no justification for speeding.

I understand i got caught and i will pay my due (if i get a note in the post) this post wasnt and is not about me personnally so i am not about to try and change anyone's views (people seem to make their own minds up)
of me.

This just backs up my plans of moving to another country because this one is or has turned to dog mess.

Thanks for your time.

I did think of that but it was too late lol#

Honestly thou along side the police van was a queue of traffic which i could of gone down the left hand side of and hid until the other corner.

But no me being me held my hands up!!!

Never said i was/wasn't a copper, never insulted anyone either. Ok, i did change your name over, but i think that was a justified response. I just wrote my reply so 'anyone' regardless of intellect could understand it, in case it confused them.

Read my previous post regarding legality of it..
Yes, if they were 'hid' as you describe then it could be thought of as being sneaky. But then again, if a copper sat in a side street waiting for people drving past using their mobile phones would that be sneaky? Would police putting CCTV into places that are burgled regularly be sneaky? There may be an eliment of sneakiness in various areas of policing in order to get the job done. Not only that, but if its an area of speed complaints then they have to deploy there and need to look at certain parameters before doing so (legality of parking, officer safety, etc).

Dont mind the word copper at all, it derives from the founder of the modern police force, William Penny (Pennies were made out of copper, and Bill is short for William, hence 'old bill').

Have i not helped, with good advice?
PCthug comes from an episode of The Simpsons where Lisa's teachers says to her 'its pc thugs like you that stop decent women landing a husband' and means Politically Correct.
Small mistake? so now your saying you were driving without due care and attention too?
Its 'small mistakes' by law abiding citizens that kill people. After all, nobody leaves the house with the intention of killing someone whilst driving/riding.

Sorry, i should have said 'motorists that speed' are (in my experience) the cause of most road deaths in the UK, i know of at least 6 in the last 6 years involving and caused by motorcyclists (and only 2 that involved but werent caused by them).
BTW, i am also a motorcyclist and been riding on the road since about 1987. I currently have an Aprillia Mille RSV1000 and used to race a GSXR600 (that i sold last year), so would class myself as quite an experienced motorcyclist myself. I still do 30 in a 30 though.

nope this is the question unless you guys/girls forgot with all your incomprendable conclusions.

Hi everyone,

I was riding around today as i went round the corner there he was parked up in his mobile speed camera van with his radar gun.

I can honestly say i was only doing 37 ish in a 30 as i dont have any plates on the front of my bike as i rode past him i saw him through the little window get his note book out and write my plate number down.

Yes fair cop i was in the wrong, but my question is.... is it legal for him to be there, as i was told the mobile vans have to be parked in an area where there is speed camera warning signs, is this correct???

Any feedback welcome thanks for reading.

You got your answer here.

So, to summarise:
  • Yes, you were in the wrong
  • Yes, it was legal for the police to be there
  • What you were told was incorrect

Sorted.
