And the winners choice is.......?

I'm stuck between the aforementioned cars, they all come under a year old & all under 15k.

Opinions are like wet farts, keep them to yourself, but in this case, I'm needing them. (Opinions not wet farts).

Had a 2.2 Mondeo for three years and an excellent car. I'd chose it over the Peugeot but not sure over the VW.

I've got a Mondeo. It's an excellent drive, someone referred to it as like sitting in your arm chair and for me they are correct.

When I bought it I also tried the VW. The drive in the Mondeo was a lot better. The VW engine was a touch quieter though. These were diesel cars.

Can't comment on the Peugeot.

I've driven the Mondeo and the Passat saloons and i've always preferred the Mondeo, felt like a more comfortable driver and seeing as I average around 3-4000 a month thats paramount to me. Its also generally quite good for extras depending on the trim level, the titanium versions have plenty.

Another mondeo owner here, used to drive various cars as a Hertz employee, the mondeo was by far the best.

Well I've gone & bought a 503 sw estate (one with the glass roof)...

All current reviews are great & I'm very happy with it & with it being on average 2k cheaper than an identical year/mileage mondeo, I've not done bad.

I've not driven the mondeo so, I guess I'll never know if I'm missing out or not.!

I am thinking of buying a new car, hopefully an estate. Thinking about a Vauxhall Vectra 1.9 (150bhp) diesel a few years old (no older than about 2005 plate). Any good? They seem very cheap.

The main concern is that we have there young kids, so trying to fit a child seat in the middle seat on the second row. I currently still have my 13 year old Seat Alhambra mpv

The vauxhall vectra was named 'worst car' in the 2012 JD power survey

JD power and What Car are different companies.
What Car were only publishing the JD power results, their own opinion might differ.
FWIW, I really like the GM/Fiat 1.9 diesel engine.
Just not in a vauxhall, I prefer it in a Saab or Alfa.
Can you get a Saab 1.9 diesel estate for the money you're spending??

Well I've had my Peugeot 508 sw estate for a few days now & it is sublime. Simply beautiful to drive, best car I've ever driven to date.

Ford Mondeo Estate, Peugeot 508 Estate, VW Passat Estate-forumrunner_20120710_222707.png

Managed 76 mpg from my home to Leeds,Liverpool over the weekend. Cruising on the M62 at various speeds, hit 90 at one point to see It's handling & quite a lot of A roads, stop start etc.

Loving it.

Sticks out like a swollen belly on a catwalk model. Hindsight I'd of taken it in black, just to hide it on my estate :o

I will indeed

Should have seen this thread earlier, as I've had all 3!

Currently got a 508sw with all the bells and whistles in April and it's lovely. Doesn't drive as well as the mondeo and is smaller than the passat & mondeo, but it has a lovely combination of looks & quality.

I do most of my driving on the motorway and it's just a really nice place to be, especially with the glass roof. Only thing which is annoying is the bluetooth is a bit flaky.

It does seem you get a lot more for the money with the 508.

76 mpg!! Even for arguments sake, say the trip computer is 10% in error, that is superb fuel economy - almost 30 mpg better than my A4 Tdi . and the 508 SW is a big big car.

I'm going to have to have some serious thought about buying a more economical car!

I usually get 55 to 65 on a motorway run, though I do have the 115ps 1.6 e-hdi, with weird electric auto gearbox. Not the fastest car and it changes up and down all the time, but still quite fun to drive.

I get 60mpg at m-way speed in my 163bhp BMW.
Just goes to show you don't need to suffer low power to get good mpg.

I did 90 miles on the motorway playing around with the cruise control.

@ 50mph I managed 81.1 mpg pretty straight roads, no elevations. Legal but but realistic driving especially during the working week. But great addictive geeky fun lol

I have an 04 Mondeo, for long drives I find it very comfortable.
What are your priorities - mileage, depreciation, comfort etc.?

I used to get similar figures from my 320d M Sport - until last December - when the car ended up being 2 feet shorter after someone ran into the back of me on the M77 - in the snow.

I bought the A4 Quattro as a replacement, hoping to get somewhere near the published mpg of around 50mpg. I’ve previously owned two A4’s that have achieved 50mpg. The Quattro doesn’t even come close, with a combined figure of only 39/40.

I’m in a bit of a quandary at the moment as to whether to change the car or not, as I would have to take a big hit on the price I paid for it only last December

Over 100miles total urban stop start traffic zzZZzz dropped it to 52mph - on the same tank of fuel from 12 days & over 623 miles ago..

It's dirty now needs a wash, but reluctant to use the £3 hand carwash places, even more to get the bucket & sponge out...

Ideas?

Quick jetwash? If theres any polish on it the dirt will be sitting on this and should come off easy.
