The kids have booked me a 3 car driving experience :-)

It's my 50th birthday on Monday, so the kids have bought me a 3 car driving experience

http://www.everymanracing.co.uk/inde...product_id=491

So I get to drive an Aston (always wanted to do that), a Ferrari 355/360 and a Gallardo.
I'm well looking forward to it

Anyone else been on one of these?

And should I take the £2000 excess waiver, in case of damage?

Sounds like a great day out.

My son had the Aston drive a couple of years ago,and got some superb pictures taken,so he really had a day to remember.

The Gallardo will be good fun.

There's an option to have photos done or a USB stick jobby with film.
I think I'll take the latter, but it depends how good/crap I am

Same as everyone, I think I'm a good driver, but we'll see.
It wouldn't surprise me if I'm totally rubbish when it comes to racing speeds

I'm really looking forward to driving the Aston.
I don't know what it is, but I've never fancied owning a Ferrari or a Lambo, as they wouldn't last 5 mins in my road (keyed/damaged etc), whereas I'd like to think there's an air of respect for an Aston.
Probably just me though.

I got my Dad a Gallardo diving day for his 70th birthday!

They made sure the track straights were coned short, so you couldn't do silly speeds, but he still enjoyed himself. He's never used flappy paddles before, which is quite funny when watching the video.

He was also given the choice of driving extra laps at a certain price if he fancied them.

I drove the Lambo, got up to 171mph

The waiver is only about £20 isn't it? I would because if you run a bit wide and curb a wheel that'll probably end up costing you £2k

Enjoy it!

I actually did it today

Started off with the Ferrari, which tbh, was a bit disappointing.
The instructor just kept telling me to take it easy and brake stupidly early and came as close as he could to moaning when I gunned it and left the gearchanges longer than he would have liked.
Although I can understand them being careful, the speed was pathetically slow, imo. So much so, that I couldn't form any proper opinion on it.
Oh and what an incredibly slow manual gearshift

Next up was the Gallardo, which was just awesome.
Having got the Ferrari out of the way, I was much more confident this time and gunned it from the off.
I actually had the back end step out a bit, which made me chuckle.
Lovely car and streets ahead of the Ferrari, imo.
Cracking flappy paddle gearchange too.

Then came the Aston.
Which was nice, but a totally different animal.
Far too refined for a circuit, imo and that flappy paddle change is far too soft, in that you hardly know it's changed, which made me feel a bit remote to the track.
It'd be fine on the road, no doubt, which is about what I expected.
I got that to step out a bit too

But best overall, I also took a passenger ride in an atom driven by a proper driver.
Now we're talking
Just unbelievable, the G's induced and the acceleration, wow.
Pretty hot laps too, the driver was letting it slide some

Thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend this sort of thing for anyone

You will have a awesome time......I didn't think I was being slow but one instructor was giving me a good working over, telling me to 'go for it', brake super late and use all of the track.......I think they only encourage you after a little while if they think you can actually listen and take some instruction, so dont go wild early on I reckon! I did almost overcook it on a corner, nearly going on grass verge which would have puled the car off the track, hence why I would recommend the extra few quid waver insurance!
