Getting bored of waiting

Long story but a cock up by my Broker has left me without a vehicle since 24th November 2011. Not a major problem as my office is only 2 minutes from home and I can use the wife's Mini if needed.

I still haven't got a delivery date. I have the reg number and I know the vehicle is in the country but not yet with the dealer. Delivery from the dealer is estimated at 10 bloody days.

I'm not really that into cars but I'm really looking forward to this one.....wish it would hurray up now.

Why does it take 10 days for a dealer to inspect and then deliver a car?

The turnaround time for cars from main dealers has always been a beef of mine.
Theoretically, I could walk into a dealer and see a car I want in stock and pay for it by Maestro/Credit card.
The dealer will then say something like "The car will be ready for collection in a week"
Why????
I believe car supermarkets allow buyers to 'walk in-drive out', so why can't main dealers?
I feel your pain, I'm not a patient person.

I could understand a couple of days for booking the car in and inspecting it prior to delivery but 10 days seems excessive.

Nowt I can do though apart from sit here and twiddle my thumbs.

I asked a dealer this at one point and he was completely honest about it (used model):

"The sales manager is using it as his car at the moment".

Not that I was particularly pleased with that as a justified response, but in my situation it made sense. Otherwise, it's just dealers knowing that they have you by the short and curly bits and not being in any particular rush.

Sometimes I get the impression that the car has been sat on a forecourt (assume used again) and hasn't had any servicing/checks planned until the point of sale to keep costs down.

I think they just drag their heals with PDI checks, let the mechanics do all the extortionately priced repairs and servicing and just fit PDI's in when they have spare time.

Yep I had the same thing when I bought my new car earlier this year. Had to wait for it get docked and delivered to the dealers from the port etc but then it was with the dealer for a week. I even went in to look at it but couldn't drive it away, very frustrating.

It wasn't like this when we bought the wife's new Mini. The dealer received the car and we collected it 2 days later.

That's more like it, but it's far from the norm.

That'll be why you had to wait then, who's our other member on here with his Cocker Spaniel? He had to wait an age too if I remember for his Scirocco. I guess it's cause they are pretty popular? I had to wait an age for my Fiesta from when I placed my order. When it's a popular car you have to wait in the queue I guess?

That would be me. I ordered my Scirocco GT 170 DSG on the 5th January 2011 and picked it up from the dealer on 23rd June.

Was it worth the wait? You bet.

The Cocker Spaniel loves it as well.

Lovely dog. What's he/she looking at? Food? Or is he/she just a good poser? :-)

Also looks a good camera you've taken that with.

Quick iPhone snap from earlier

IMG_0013 by ashworthacca, on Flickr

I've just had my first blast in it and it's certainly quicker than the stats say. Apparently the same 0-62 as my old BMW 1 series cabrio but feels much quicker.

EDIT: The playing of MP3's from my iPhone over Bluetooth is a nifty trick too.

Cold when I first sat on it but the heated seats warm it up in no time.

Looks good in black, from what I've so far experienced with mine the paint work is excellent.

It does seem faster than the VW figures suggest, mine is seems to be getting quicker with just under 10k on the clock. I've pasted this from an AutoExpress group test against a Peugeot RCZ:

On the move, the VW proves that its practical streak doesn’t come at the expense of pace. Against the clock, the 168bhp Scirocco left the RCZ trailing.

Thanks in part to its optional DSG twin-clutch gearbox, our test car served up unrelenting acceleration, scorching from 0-60mph in only 7.3 seconds. In-gear pace was stronger, too, with the sprint from 50-70mph taking 7.7 seconds – that’s 1.3 seconds faster than the Peugeot.

Don't know what you'll need to carry in the boot but it can be a bit of a bugger to clean. I use a Hatchbag complete cover in mine which is custom fitted, pricey but well worth the money.

Just been talking about that...I will have my golf trolley, battery and shoes in there so will get mucky quickly.

Do you have a link to where you got the custom fit cover?

Here's the link:

Boot Liner - Volkswagen – Scirocco 2008 onwards

It's well worth the £69.95, and that is all you need no need for any extras unless you want a solid bottom. If you look at the photo of my Cocker you can see how high it comes up, right underneath the head guards and up over the boot lip. Easy to fit as well.
