Right, time to post pics of my baby I picked up on Saturday. It's my first ever brand new car and I love it. Really impressed. She needs a wash already though lol:

I think it's much better then the current pugs and renaults. Not sure who designed it but I did find a video of the guy I think on you tube once. No one famous I don't think?

A quick google found this:

Interesting, thanks for that link.

The Ford designs are pretty damned good at the moment, it is making a lot of the brands look very dated indeed.

A fine choice DALG!!

My favourite and the only one I would want to own, the 599 shouts classic and classy so much better than the others.
Love it!

I couldn't agree more with you, I absolutely hated all modern Ferrari's until the 599 although having had a few California's now I'm becoming quite fond of those.

599 is the best of all the modern 'super' cars IMO and you don't even need to slow down to 4mph to get over speed ramps in it!

Had a Gallardo before this and it was nothing but trouble, always in and out for repairs and was such a pain to drive in a city environment it just made me hate the whole idea of these types of cars until the 599

Current Ford designs are some of the best in the market , the Fiesta is brilliant , new 2010 Focus is looking chunky judging by the photo releases .

VERY nice DALG, I think the wheels look fine? Love the red calipers too.

I was wondering if I could ask you, do you need a front number plate on your car? Curious due to the thread we had on here a while ago about the subject, just wondering what's been said to you?

Hi Apolloa and thanks for the nice comments on the car.

To gain UK registration cars have to have both front & rear plates.

What you see in these photo is an rear export plate from the original country I purchased the vehicle from. The vehicle now has Spanish plates as that's where I tend to spend most of my time these days.

My new toy, Alpina D3, love it to bits despite the insurance costs . Manufactured in 2007, got it a week ago. Sorry for bad photos.

Thanks - It is just the standard version. I baulked a little at paying £2500 for a 25bhp increase

I am planning on visiting G-tech in Germany to get it chipped and push the power up to around 170 bhp for around £600

Lovely car in a nice colour too. I left the Alpina club 18 months ago when I sold my B10 but one of these days I hope to rejoin but would like a B5 next time

re: The official AVFORUMS Car showroom (56k warning) PART 1

Ian, buying an Alpina is partially your fault.

I remember you rumbling how much you miss your car, despite driving what most of us here can only dream about, so thought that there must be something special. Then started looking at reviews and then my wife persuaded me to look for a new car (this is true, believe it or not!!!). The only one I’d consider was D3, tried it after trying 330d and was really blown away.

Found a quote from one of the reviews which goes something like:

“Put your foot to the floor, clench butt cheeks and prepare to grin!!!”

and that is by far the most accurate description of how I feel about it. If I have to nitpick, I really miss blue instrument cluster light (they have it on new D3 BiTurbos) and cruise control for those streets with plenty of speed cameras.

And I agree, B5 must be a dream car although I wouldn’t say no to B3 either

Yep lovely D3 just to continue the Alpina love-in! Something so wrong yet so right about those particular Alpina alloys too.

Enjoy.

I've got one of them.
Mine has the 'Classic' alloys (yours are called 'Dynamic')
You'll love it, as long as you live somewhere that never gets snow.

I really didn’t like them initially, then they grew up on me and at the end, I actually looked for the car with set of Dynamics. At least you don’t have to keep removing the roundel just to check the tyre pressure. Oh, and thanks to someone in Sytner who managed to ruin the original tyres on the car so I got 4 new ones

I decided to get a set of winter tyres. Having two RWD cars in the family is not great for the winter. Hope to use them for the next 4-5 years so shouldn't be too expensive on the long run.

What did they cost you for the D3 sizes?!?!?

Oh, watch the paint.
Yours is the same colour as mine.
Marks incredibly easily, especially bird crap which etches into the paint in no time at all (I'm not kidding...under a minute)
That's despite extra care with top quality polishes and waxes.

I'd recommend Shell optimax or BP Ultimate diesel too.
Runs better, mine 'hunts' on standard diesel.

re: The official AVFORUMS Car showroom (56k warning) PART 1

What is the draw of the Alpina cars?

AMG/M etc I understand because they increase power and handling etc and make them into monster cars. Having had a look at the specs for the Alpina D3 it doesnt look especially impressive.
