Do you need mud flaps?

I have just bought a new car and have always had mud flaps put on every other car I have had but the dealer says they are are not available yet.

My question is do I need them or should I get them?

Help and advice needed on new car purchase

I have agreed a deal to buy a brand new renault megane and have paid 250 deposit over the phone but not signed order forms yet. I asked for half tank of petrol and mats and flaps to be included in the deal. He agreed to mats and half tank of petrol and said that the flaps have not been made yet (ie renault have not supplied and made them) Does anyone know if this is true and if not can I do anything about it now?

Also I received the order form to sign in the post and there is no mention of half tank of petrol or mats is this normal or should I seek written confirmation of this?

If anyone knows about the flaps can you help me on this?

Re: Help and advice needed on new car purchase

Ring a different dealer up, ask for parts and a price on some flaps. Then you'll know if they make them or not.

I'd also want a full tank of fuel

Re: Do you need mud flaps?

I think they are essential. Don't get anything other than those where the rubber just touches the ground for earthing and have orange reflectors on them.

Wouldn't go out without them...

Yes, reduces the risk of stop chippings around bottom of the door, sills

Re: Do you need mud flaps?

I would say no.
I haven't bothered with flaps for years, because they often completely ruin the looks of the car.
I've not been bothered with stonechips along the sills etc.

Re: Do you need mud flaps?

My vote is no, some cars look good with them on but others just look wrong. Never had any stone chips as a result of not having them either.

Re: Help and advice needed on new car purchase

Never hurts to ask but I suspect you won't get very far now that they have a deposit...their poker face will be stronger than yours seeing as though they have the upper hand (your £250).

Re: Help and advice needed on new car purchase

I have had mudflaps on all my cars, i think it looks better, especially when viewed from directly behind. Not sure if they make a great deal of difference from a functionality standpoint, but aesthetically they are pleasing to me.

Manufacturers not currently making mudflaps for a new model does happen.....i remember my dad being in that position one time(cant remember what car it was), but he got them later on.

You should see the mudflaps Alfa decided to release for the Mito.
They're the subject of much horrified talk on Alfa forums.
They have tyre tread printed on them...
