What's the latest on UK drivers and Fixed cameras in France.

Just back from a 1300 mile weekend round trip to Hannover Germany.

Few miles out from The Channel Tunnel (France end) I think I got flashed.

Was in a 110kph zone doing 110. My Tom Tom changes to 130 kph so I accelerate a bit and a few seconds later, there's a flash (quite a bit behind me). Was only 2 cars on the road and I was going faster (approx 125Kph ish). Very dark so didn't see anything besides the flash.

Bloody Tom Tom

Can only assume the road was still 110 and I was doing 125-130

Anyone know what the latest is with French Gatso's and UK licence holders?

How many weeks do I remain in Limbo

The best I can give you is that after a trip through France, Italy, Germany etc. on a GSXR-750 last September. I set off around half-a-dozen cameras in France (at night, only saw the flash, didn't notice any warning signs) but luckily have never received anything through the post. Doesn't seem to be worth their while to pursue it.

Re: What's the latest on UK drivers and Fixed cameras in France.

Is that September this year?

Did a bit of searching on the web and it appears that countries are now trying to collaborate more and more (think that's new from 2009 onwards).

So much so that perhaps it'll be the DVLA chasing me rather than the French.

Guess i'll have to give it a month or so and see what happens.

Still angry that I slipped up 2 mins from the end after 14 hours of law abiding driving through France, Belgium, Netherlands and Germany

A friend of mine (whe lives & works in Switzerland) took his Swiss registered car back to the UK for a visit. He drove around the congestion charge area of London thinking they wouldn't be able to do anything about it. Needless to say, they tracked him down via the Swiss authorities and caught up with him soon after he got home.

Re: What's the latest on UK drivers and Fixed cameras in France.

someone bought a car from me last year and they were flashed at some point driving through a toll zone in france.

i received a letter through the post by some company in the uk requesting the money. i replied saying that the dvla had been informed by me returning the v5 and saying that ownership had passed on. it was the last i heard from them..... but i was suprised they managed to trace me as the previous owner given that i thought only the dvla had this information and it was covered by the freedom of information act

You mean the Data Protection Act. Yeah, well don't expect your government to stand up for your rights any more.

As far as i was aware if the vechile was registered in a different country they cant really do much at all unless you were doing something really dangerous.

But i think that will be changing around 2012 or 2013 with the issue of the new eu driving licence which will allow you to acrue points from all eu countries

Your fine if it's a UK car, we got to France every year to visit my wifes family and I've been flashed quite a few times and never had a thing through, can't say the same for we took the father-in-laws Merc down to St Tropez for a long weekend

But he took the points and paid the fine even though I told him to say I was driving and I'd pay the fine.
