New or nearly new focus 1.6 zetec or megane dynamique 1.6

I am thinking of buying a new or nearly new megane 1.6 dynamique or ford foucs 1.6 zetec. Anyone been offered any good deals on these or should I wait to the new reg comes out. Also anyone bought used from arnold clark they seem to have loads of ford foucses on their website.

If you are to buy either of the two, make sure you buy nearly new - it'll be a lot cheaper (in theory) and should be noted considering both will depreciate fairly quickly.

However, their asking prices, in fairness, do tend to reflect their depreciation.

The Focus 1.6 is fairly snappy and the Zetec trim now has a decent amount of kit. Not sure about the Megane - don't know their trims too well.

I have been offered a brand new renault megane dynamique 1.6 for 244 per month with £600 deposit is this any good? or should I just wait and get the new reg?

Also should I expect mats and flaps and a full tank of petrol for this?

Depends on the terms.

How many months? Final payment? Mileage limit? Cost per extra mile? Miles on clock already? What is the offer on the new reg (assuming you mean a 10 plate)?

Its a brand new 59 plate zero miles 3years 5.9% finance final payment is 4879 and its with met paint. I need to check the mileage limit with him hope its not 6000?

Getting pressured into doing the deal today as well.

Its 6000 miles but he says that dosent matter as everyone part exchanges anyway.

Never let the salesman pressure determine what deal you get. Some of them are far too pushy for their own good.

What's the equivalent offer on the Ford? I would compare the two before ever making a commitment, not to mention comparing against internet prices and other garages (who are always keen to beat their rivals).

Your total price (600 + 36*244 + 4879) = 14263. What's the list price before finance?

Re: New or nearly new focus 1.6 zetec or megane dynamique 1.6

List price is £16,585

Thanks for all the help, have not been to a ford dealer yet but kind of like the renault dynamique anyway. I suppose I could try another renault dealer and see what they offer. My first renault dealer said 305 per month so I walked out. This seems a lot better at 244 but he says it a bare bones deal. thats why I was thinking of adding the mats and flaps and tank of petrol oh and a years tax as he is only offering six months. (I suppose to keep costs down)

Not so worried about the miles issue now as it only seems to come into play when you hand the car back and I dont plan doing that.

Thanks

I meant the price if you were paying cash - sorry!

Regardless, my experience of buying cars is that where a dealer is pushy ("we've had loads of people interested in it" "I can only do this deal today" etc), then I would walk away and make sure you can't find a better deal. If it goes to someone else, then so be it. Chances are it won't and the dealer will still be able to do the deal for a while longer yet.

If you rush, you'll regret it at a later date and wish you'd waited for the right car.

The Megane is;
1) Still fairly new
2) French

It will most likely be fairly unreliable as a result. Even at the end of its life the old Megane was still regarded poorly in owner surveys. I'd have the Focus every time and would also see if the news of Honda's poor sales recently has actually got dealers negotiating on the Civic. Both are great cars.

Re: New or nearly new focus 1.6 zetec or megane dynamique 1.6

I wouldnt buy either of these cars new. Your going to take a massive kicking in depreciation in the first year. Look for a 6 months-12 month old one. Ford will happily make the warranty back up to 3 years if you ask and this should save you a few thousand. If it was me i would have the ford, wont loose as much money and it doesnt rattle as much as the megane, having said that brand new shape megane looks nice.
