Ford Focus Clutch Problem?

i m trying to fiqure out what is wrong with my car before i take it to a garage and they tell me everything needs replacing and charge me a fortune.

when driving, my revs seem to fly up really high when i put my foot down and i dont go anywhere, i have to really slowly gradually lower the pedal to accelerate, and this is a really slow process when starting off from lights etc.

i thought it was my clutch or gear box, but then i thought i probably wouldnt be able to change gear very well if that were the case, i can change gear fine - no problems at all.

just have hardly any acceleration and the revs fly up really high.

any idea's what it could be?

its a 51 plate ford focus zetec 1.6 (75'000 miles)

thanks,

Dan

Re: Ford Focus Clutch Problem?

Classic clutch slip.
The plates need replacing, which is about right for 75000 miles.
Shouldn't be too expensive, phone around for a price.
Many high street garages like Kwikfit etc. will do clutches too.

Re: Ford Focus Clutch Problem?

thanks, that sounds much better.

do you think that could cause the engine fault light to come on? it has been like this for a while now.

i just cant bring myself to take it to fords to find out what it means, last time it cost me a fortune.

.
Engine fault light, no.
Clutch fluid warning light, possibly.

Hi Dan

The friction plate has worn down to the rivets and thats why its slipping, but you can still select gears correctly because the pressure plate is still working fine.I beleave you should have a hydraulic bearing but not deffo.

Should also have a Dual mass flywheel and that also could need changing.

Re: Ford Focus Clutch Problem?

Yeah, you're able to change gear because the clutch is disengaging fine.
It's engaging that's the problem.
If you compare your clutch to two slippy hands.
No problem letting go, a problem gripping together though.
