Re: Top Gear new series

That's a shame. I was hoping to see a "Top Gear Axed" thread .

I used to be a huge fan of TG, but I can't take any more of the same old nonsense , week in, week out for another whole series. They really need to think of something new.

Sorry, but I'll be passing on this series.

Re: Top Gear new series

I too love TG, and was thinking about starting a thread just like this today after watching a repeat on Dave.

Something I find odd is the fact that I haven't seen any adverts for a new JC dvd for xmas like we have had for every other year.

Re: Top Gear new series

I've seen some TV ads for Clarkson's 'Duel' DVD, which is out now.

and I think I saw a DVD preview of it on the front of the Top Gear magazine.

'Duel' Jeremy Clarkson DVD 2009 Trailer.flv - Car Videos on StreetFire

With Vicky & Tiff.

I reckon you may be on your own there.
Car reviews are generally pretty damn boring.
You want to know how much space the boot has, or if it's quiet at 70mph?
Go for a test drive.
It's hardly coincidence that TGs ratings rocketed once they got off reviews and onto "stupid stuff"
I watched an old episode of TG not so long ago, where they reviewed the then-new Astra (2003ish?)
An Astra....
A bloody Astra....
Who cares....go down the Vauxhall dealer and they'll happily lend you one.

Time hasn't been kind to him.
As Frankie Boyle says about Gordon Brown;

"He looks like a scrotum with a sad face drawn on it"

Too much "pausing in the middle of sentences"
He really has a 50yo bikers leather jacket on his face.

So reviewing the new megane 250 vrs focus RS would be boring? Im not talking about reviewing a car to say that it has great door handles im talking about reviewing cars to see whats the best, rather than a stupid £1000 crap car rally.

But yes i might be on my own.

To me, definitely, to most, yes.
Because most of the time your local dealer will have one for you to look at and drive.
When criticised about always featuring 'supercars', JC responded by saying that he didn't see the point in testing cars anyone could drive themselves, so he goes for cars most of us will never get near.

If by "£1000 crap car rally" you're referring the the £1000 Alfa feature, that's one of my favourites.
Brilliant work.

As the Megane isnt out yet, you cant pop down and test drive it. I probably will when it comes out in the same way i drove several Subaru STIs before buying one and i also drove an Audi S4 and an M3 before buying an M3. I found the tests that TG did on all these cars to be highly entertaining and informative. Same goes with the Focus ST, astra VXR, golf GTI which i nearly bought.

How was the RS4 vrs M3 vrs the Merc boring?

Not with you at all, but each to there own. Im more than happy to have a stupid part in the show but hopefully not all of it like some of the episodes where in the last series.

You're missing the point completely.
An RS4/M3/AMG is the sort of car your average Joe will never drive.
They might see one in the showroom, but you'd be lucky to convince them to let you drive one.
Whereas practically anyone can get a test-drive of a Focus or Megane, no matter how fancy.
So the RS4/M3/AMG test was valid, a Focus/Megane test isn't.
I certainly don't want to see tests of £20k cars, unless they offer something new and exciting.
Neither of which the Focus/Megane do.
I'd rather see a test of an electric car than those.

Who wants to see boring cars on the telly when you will be stuck behind them everyday on the roads.
I watch TG for entertainment and to see what i could never afford to drive, but still appreciate nonetheless.

you can drive the merc, bm or audi very easily, if not more so than the RS (try finding one in NI!)
I guess no tv program can please everyone all the time. Anyway not long to wait to find out which is the best news!

Top Gear used to be a reviews show.

It was dull as ditch water.

Since 2002 it has been a brilliant entertainment show, long may it continue in the same vein.

To series 15 and beyond!

Before this thread gets more stupid than it is.
Your wrong. lift the phone, call your local dealer say 'Hello id like to arrange a test drive in an M3'.
Job done. they are a car dealer they want to sell cars, saying no you cant drive a car is a little stupid isnt it?

Sadly, in the real world this often does not happen.

Unless you look the part and talk the part, dealers have often tended to brush you away. I've experienced it a few times before and know several others who have too.

Hell I had a huge struggle to test drive a CTR once with a stuck up Honda Salesman.
