Re: ABS and Hand Brake

This light on the dash.....

...has multiple meanings. Firstly it warns you that your handbrake is on. If it comes on whilst braking during driving then it means either the handbrake is being applied, or maybe the brake pads have worn to the point when the pad wear sensors are activated (usually 3k+ miles before they get in the least bit dangerous). If it comes on without the handbrake being applied, or braking with the footbrake, then you may have a fault with the ABS. It can also indicate that you have low brake fluid.

Re: ABS and Hand Brake

Thanks for the reply.

I had replaced the brake pads, break drum and also the fluid level is accurate. All these are done by Ford garage but still the problem is not resolved.

Re: ABS and Hand Brake

Thanks.

This issue is not resolved. Spent around £1000 pounds in the ford garage for this problem. Replacing all the stuff what they had mentioned but the problem is not solved.

Re: ABS and Hand Brake

If a main dealership can't identify the problem in under 1/2 an hour and fix it in less than two then don't ever use them again. A recommended back-street place would be much cheaper and probably more competent. They should replace nothing unless they know it is almost definitely the problem, and if they do and don't cure it then they shouldn't be charging you for the work !

As said above, you need to check the handbrake switch, that the pads have plenty of life left, and there is a proper amount of fluid in the reservoir. After that it points at a problem with the ABS, either a sensor or the control unit.

Replacing the wiring loom is a major and expensive job, I believe. Also a good catch-all excuse for a problem with anything electrical in the car.

Not saying it isn't the problem .. just with the record of the garage so far I would want to hear another expert opinion before laying out the cash.

Seek out a good private mechanic/garage and get them to check it.

Re: ABS and Hand Brake

This is similar to a fault found on Ford Focus cars , the culprit turned out to be the entire dashboard clocks assembly that had poor soldering joints & needed replacing .

Re: ABS and Hand Brake

Do a Google for 'watchdog ford focus' and you'll get lots of info on that. Another viable consideration.
