Revo Kits - VW Tuning

Has anyone on here any experience of the Revo kits?

I have a company car at the moment and it's looking very likely that it's replacement next year will be a 1.4TSi Scirocco.... someone pointed me at Revo and it seems for £399 + VAT they increase the power to 219bhp and Torque to around 240lbft - whilst these numbers seem high for just a remap, on other cars a lot of people have backed up their claims on rolling roads...

I don't mind paying £399 for that performance gain as it's a lot cheaper to buy the 1.4, much cheaper to run as a company car... but for that money i get a car quicker than the 2.0! Though i'm sure the driving will be different.

They even offer a switch system so you can return the car to standard map for when it goes to the dealer - thus no warranty issues!!!!

Hi there,

I've had my car remapped using Revo software.

The gains you've been quoted are perfectly reasonable, and whilst it may seem quite significant in overall terms, they can be backed up pretty well.

My own car has gone from about 260bhp to over 360bhp,although to get those sort of percentage gains you do need other mods such as exhaust, intake and fuel pump mods.

The difference between a remap such as Revo and other companies such as GIAC offer, and either plug-in or similar devices,is that you get something that can be tailored to your car and your requirements, including the petrol you use.

What you'll notice most is this particular software does have a fairly aggressive initial boost,so you do notice that, but the top end power is not a whole lot greater than others such as GIAC.
The tailoring possibilities and upgrades are generally greater than with systems such as Superchips Bluefin.

The switch is called a Serial Port Switch, and enables you to change between stock, valet, and a few performance modes.

If you're anywhere near Essex, give Shaun at AMD a ring...

High-performance vehicle tuning, ECU remaps, Exhausts and Servicing

and for any other questions,Carl at Revo...

Revo Technik | ECU Remap | Engine Management Software| Audi Porsche Seat Skoda Volkswagen VAG

Both are very helpful guys and obviously know what they're doing...AMD have just got Audi Drivers Silver award for their efforts....highly recommended.

BTW...dealer issues may be a problem if you go beyond the Stage 1 software, which will work with the stock intake, fuel pump and exhaust.

Re: Revo Kits - VW Tuning

Cheers Alex.

I've heard of AMD before too.... the advantage of the Revo one is there is a dealer/installer literally 2 miles from my house (conveniently on the way to the VW garage too :D)

I wouldn't be able to go above the Stage 1, hence looking at the Revo gear with the controller... for about £550 you get control over it and a lot more go! I was just unsure as 219bhp from a 1.4 seems a crazy figure - they seem to offer a test so maybe i'll look into that s and when

Re: Revo Kits - VW Tuning

The test is well worth a go....it's time limited before reverting to the original settings.

I don't know which Revo outlet you were thinking of,so I can't give any feedback on that.
I mentioned AMD as they are Revo dealers, and well respected....there are a few less than ideal folk out there, but the Revo community seems to have very few complaints overall, and good support from Revo themselves.

Even with the Stage 1 remap, you do get a good bit more torque, which makes the car more driveable, and it will certainly accelerate better between the gears.
If you don't thrash it,economy also goes up,as you don't have to use the revs as you would previously.....mine can get up to 36mpg on the morning crawl, although you can also get under 26mpg if you try a bit harder.

Re: Revo Kits - VW Tuning

Thanks again Alex,

Fuel economy i don't care about as the company fuel card with private mileage takes care of that.... but the budget on company cars restricts me to the 1.4TSi - i drove it and loved it, but coming from an Elise i'm going to miss the performance, so for £500 approx for a mod that goes undetected for warranty issues and gives those sort of gains - it seems a bargain - almost too good to be true!

The dealer i'm on about are a company called Aldon Automotive near Birmingham - very well respected locally, been around for years and used to build F1 engines for Eddie Jordan!

I've heard of Aldon Automotive, and it was Formula Ford engines they built for EJ during his days as team owner in that series....EJ had rather worse luck when he moved up to F1 and inherited the Yamaha F1 engine.....the record time to failure for that was 30s.

Aldon though, have a very good reputation for solid engineering.....there's a huge advantage using someone like that,as I found when running a couple of Cosworths.....I've seen some absolute engineering horrors along the way.

The Scirroco may not be as brisk as your Elise, but it should still be fun.

Ah, slight difference but still as you say a solid engineering background which does go far, the fact they're still running after this many years says something also!

I know the Scirocco won't be as brisk - not much gives you the thrill and involvement as much as the Elise, but the Scirocco will be a good compromise on the driver involvement whilst still being suitable for the 600 mile roundtrip to Edinburgh every other weekend - something the Elise is NOT good at!!!

That's true....600 miles in an Elise can't be relaxing!

The Scirocco looks good and should be a lot easier on the ears on a long run....and remapping will certainly make it a good deal faster.

Re: Revo Kits - VW Tuning

I am very tempted with a remap from Revo for my Skoda Diseasel. I think you can get a free trial of the software. You get 5 hours of driving time at the performance settings then after that it reverts back to standard.

The only problem with it is from what I have read on the skoda forum is, when it does go back to standard it is a 'generic standard' and not really what it was before. I have also read that once done it leaves bits in the ECU that makes other remap companies harder to do it. The advantage with Revo is you can buy a device that allows you to switch from performance and standard modes. I just don't know whether to get one from them or Superchips or even Jabba.

You'd be best advised to have a word with Carl at Revo about that,as that doesn't fit with what I'd been told.

Compared with most competitors except GIAC,Revo offers a level of flexibility, adjustment and upgradeability which others don't easily match.

Obviously thats a very pro-Revo view, but all the experiences I've had with them and AMD have been very good.

Re: Revo Kits - VW Tuning

I have just done a quick search and found a thread in the Revo section of Briskoda (Revo are a site sponsor) about this free trail.

Just had a free Revo remap trial.... anybody else buy one afterwards??? - BRISKODA

Kev from Revo said that after the free trail, if you go to another tuning company, you should inform them that you have had this trail, but there should not be a problem. I'm sure I read that someone did, but I must be thinking of something else.

Edit: we are going a bit here, the OP is wanting a permanent (or swichable) Remap not this free trail.

Revo only do free Trials to petrol cars dont they?

I have been looking at these too, along with the removal of my DPF filter.

Can go from 170BHP standard ----> 240BHP which is not bad for a diesel remap, thats with a few things extra from JBS auto and milltek
