Can someone please come and hide my keys....
My Elise has been off the road for 2 years having a complete rebuild, unfortunately during that time I also took the decision to sell it.
So, i taxed it yesterday, but for today so i didn't lose a full month on it, it was sunny yesterday, today it is raining.... i've not driven it over 2 years, it now has around 170bhp, is setup for track work, it's greasy as you like outside, yet for some reason i keep eyeing up the keys! Oh and i've still got adrenaline pumping from watching Jens in the last few laps of the GP!

Too late, all of you!
I caved and went out.... and am still in one piece too - thankfully the rain had stopped.
That got the blood pumping a bit more too!

Re: Can someone please come and hide my keys....
why are you selling it? Had a track day in an exige and loved it, and its made me wonder whether I could live with an elise as a daily driver

Many reasons, mostly lack of use and fiscal!
The other half is at uni in Edinburgh and her fees are pretty crazy, so it means i can't enjoy the car for what i want - namely track days and B Road blasts... track days add up when you do them a lot.
Plus i now have a company car which makes the 300 mile drive to Edinburgh a lot more comfy!
They are great cars, but having used one everyday for 5 years and now jumping in to a normal car you realise that while you CAN use them everyday, i would recommend against it. They have niggles, the windscreen doesn't demist very quickly (as i noticed this morning!), the ride is very hard (if you go track spec), they're not easy to get into to, they attract a lot of attention.
I absolutely love mine, it's easily the best car i've ever owned and i'll get another ASAP. The S2 is better as an everyday prospect and the Toyota engined cars even better again... but for absolute feedback and connectedness the S1 is the better car in my opinion.
The latest MY10 Exige S2 makes me a little weak at the kness, but i'll probably be back in a few years, with a Honda or Audi engined S1!

Re: Can someone please come and hide my keys....
thanks. So its more a weekend/track car than a daily driver by the sounds of it.
Might be tempted to try one as a daily car, letting my wife have my BMW so we still have a comfy cruiser for long trips. Then maybe I can keep my wife's old focus for a tip/ikea car and for when I fancy a rest

It is stunning as a weekend, fun car, trackdays etc... and yes it's fine for everyday use, but they are compromised. The fun factor makes up for it no question.... but maybe it's an age thing now but i do prefer not folding myself in half to get in and out, not being able to see out the windscreen at the start of a drive, and then again when the rainwater that collected overnight blasts into the windscreen as the thermostat opens!
If you have other options in case you can't hack it everyday then at least you're covered. I can't say anything other than buy one... but go in eyes open! If you're buying used, get an AA Parts and Labour warranty too!!!!
