Climatronic - Passat - ticking behind glovebox

Hi Everyone
Have got a V reg passat and approx 1 month ago a ticking has appeared from behind the glove box as soon as I turn on the ignition. The pattern is as follows
This occurs whether the Climatronic is on or off :
When key turned to 1st position just turning on the electrics it ticks very loudly
When turned to starter position it goes quieter but still ticks
If I go on the motorway I can barley hear it but when I break at either an island or nights the noise becomes loud again
I must state at this point the heating / cooling still works fine, It is just affecting my mental stability whilst driving without putting my foot through the glove box
I have taken the fuse out for the Climatronic and the noise goes away, indicating it is some motor or flap. I have removed the glove box but the space between the motor and the passenger airbag is very tight. It is a UK model so the box is on the left
I know if I take it to a garage I will be charged a fortune and in the current climate am more than willing to give it ago.
Please, please please can someone help.
P.S, before someone posts it, no, its not a bomb

Re: Climatronic - Passat - ticking behind glovebox

look through this secton i did a small tut on removing the motor.

Anyway, remove pollen filter and look down the panel you will see your blower motor make sure its clean and spin it with your fingers you will see the problem if there is one there.

If its your motor it will be the bushes, simple really again bring up my tt ( its in this section) "use the force luke, well search tab"

Vw Passat heater blower/Motor issues.

Re: Climatronic - Passat - ticking behind glovebox

I had a similar problem with a passat, fast rythmic clicking from behind nearside of dash, can't remember the actual purpose of the offending unit, possibly connected to central locking, could only be cured by removing the complete dash panel, v.v.v expensive.............. apparently some vw techs have a fiddle solution not to take out dash, I could not find a man who could do it though............hope I am wrong..........

Re: Climatronic - Passat - ticking behind glovebox

Is there any relays down that side? Maybe Ayub know as they can 'tick' when sticky.

Not that i know of, the relays run under the drivers side ( fuse box and relays) there are a few relays under the bonnet but they are to the front n/s head light just above the power steering fluid, they are covered witha plastic cover and control the dual cooling fans etc.
