Re: Is it me, or are fuel prices creeping up again?

It's around 108 here.
The odd garage is already at 109 & 110, so won't be long before the others follow suit.

Don't forget there is another 2.5% increase to the price at the end of December when VAT goes back up.
So that will add around 3p.

luckily not, or unluckily depending on how you look at it. They increased duty to compensate for the VAT cut, can't make using the evil planet killing fluid cheaper now an we?
Wouldn't surprise me if VAT did increase and this extra duty wasn't cut. Last thing i need.
This is all as far as i know, i may be wrong but don't think so.

They were always going to increase duty last year, they just delayed it and then decided to do it when they cut VAT so people didn't notice.

It wont be going back down, so fuel will go up when VAT returns to 17.5%!

Its another case of the motorist paying through the nose thanks to our crappy government, i am well and truly fed up of living here, and hope to god i leave Britain within the next few years.

We are an easy target, we all need/want to drive, we will pay, its easy money for them.

Well im feeling quite displeased about this now. Must have increasedd a good 10p in recent years from duty increases. Seems so long ago 85p was the accepted amount, only about 5 years in reality.

Re: Is it me, or are fuel prices creeping up again?

not much we can do about it really though...the govt needs their tax income...and most of the price is tax

we have to look forward to more expensive fuel, gas, electric...lets face it, its all going to get more scarce = more expensive ...no changing that unless some magics up some wonder fuel

Re: Is it me, or are fuel prices creeping up again?

this is where i contemplate buying a car that does more than 25mpg. Thing if everyone changed their gas guzzlers into 50mpg cars half the fuel is being used to tax with have to double to keep the income. Hence in long term not really saving alot.

Re: Is it me, or are fuel prices creeping up again?

a weak pound due to gordo's borrowing spree and printing money like it was water plus some tax increases

when oil goes back up to $1.40 - $1.50 a barrel which it will do since the demand for oil goes up drastically year on year (ignoring the current blip) and the banks are still allowed to manipulate the market the price in the uk will be well over £2 per litre

and when everyone has 50mpg cars they will just double taxation to compensate

I see Renault are committed to releasing 4 x all-electric vehicles by 2012.
Properly usable ones too, not stupid little things that will look like Noddy cars.

Would you trust owning a renault that was all electrics? Its not exactly their strong point

With newer cars there are plenty that are 50mpg cars but you get the trade off between driving like a granny for the economy or having a bit of fun

Ive noticed the fuel prices going up, just last week, my usual station has gone up a little over the past few weeks.

Re: Is it me, or are fuel prices creeping up again?

Definately on the UP down our way. Tax is a big factor now. I was shocked at how much extra I was paying each year in car tax UK Fuel tax calculator !

Talk about rip off britain! When vat goes back up that will be another 3p on the price!

How is this helping our economy?

Can't see why you're moaning.

Petrol at 35p per litre is cheap.

It's just the 200% tax and duty on top that makes it dear. How else would Gordon pay MPs expenses, MoD civil servants bonuses and boatloads of bureaucrats salaries?

Yes. A barrel of oil is 160 litres. Currently costs around $80 ie 50 cents or 30p a litre.

And your point is?

Re: Is it me, or are fuel prices creeping up again?

Fuel prices are rising predominantly because of increased taxation.

The raw material, ie a barrel of oil, is significantly cheap now compared to what it cost last year and in the early part of this year.

Re: Is it me, or are fuel prices creeping up again?

The next predictable rise should be the turn of the year when VAT goes back to 17.5% from the current reduced rate of 15%. That should be good for a couple of extra pence per litre.

Gotta love the way that the government apply VAT to the price after they whack on the excise duty. So they are taxing a tax.

Also, have to love the way that the governments won't agree on meaningful green measures on a state/global scale yet for sure we can bet that there will be a boatload of 'green' taxes or related tax increases landing on the shoulders of the general public in the not so distant future.
