E8400 - where to buy..?

Every supplier I've looked at seems to be out of stock.

Has Intel pulled the plug in order to sort out the temp reading issue?

Re: E8400 - where to buy..?

Think you'll find it's just stock shortages cos it's new. 8800GT video cards were the same when they first came out.

The temperature issue is nothing to do with Intel, it's down to the hardware/software not having correct config's for the new 45mn chips.

Buy from Eclipse and you'll see neither the CPU or your cash for 3 months

Bought a keyoard from them, arrived no problem, now it's broken, I have to pay postage back to them to RMA it and they have to send it back to Saitek to get it replaced as it's not a stock item anymore!

OKOK well Eclipse isn't a very good idea then!!

Novatech should have some in today though. Or if you really want it now you could spend a little more on an E8500 instead.

Re: E8400 - where to buy..?

no point getting an e8500, the 8400 overclocks to 3.6 in a breeze

it's worth waiting for the 8400.

makes me wonder how many they actually made

of all the sites i saw it available on, none really had more than 10

Re: E8400 - where to buy..?

Got mine just this week from Overclockers but see their now sold out

Checked my regular suppliers & all awaiting new stock.

It is great and I've got mine running at 3.6GHz in a Shuttle SFF system and temps only rose about 2-3C

CCL are showing some in 2-3 days (if reliable data). I've used them before with no trouble.

No problem with my temps as Shuttle issued a new BIOS update before I fitted my E8400.

Shows between 36-42 idle (50-55 cores) and goes up about 10C under full, sustained load. Temps showing the same in my BIOS, speedfan, Everest etc.

50-55 is a bit high for dual core don't you think? As I will be getting a Q9450, which is basically two E8400 stuck together.

Re: E8400 - where to buy..?

Don't forget mine is a shoebox size SFF HTPC which will run hotter than a large OC rig, and I'm also going on this guide:

http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/...perature-guide

Scale 6: Duo
E6x00: Tcase Max 61c, L2 Stepping, Tjunction Max 100c, Vcore Default 1.325, TDP 65w, Delta 15c
E4x00: Tcase Max 61c, L2 Stepping, Tjunction Max 100c, Vcore Default 1.325, TDP 65w, Delta 15c
E21x0: Tcase Max 61c, L2 Stepping, Tjunction Max 100c, Vcore Default 1.312, TDP 65w, Delta 15c
X6800: Tcase Max 60c, B2 Stepping, Tjunction Max 85c, Vcore Default 1.3525, TDP 75w, Delta 15c
E6x00: Tcase Max 60c, B2 Stepping, Tjunction Max 85c, Vcore Default 1.3525, TDP 65w, Delta 15c
E6x20: Tcase Max 60c, B2 Stepping, Tjunction Max 85c, Vcore Default 1.3525, TDP 65w, Delta 15c

-Tcase/Tjunction-
--60--/--75--75-- Hot
--55--/--70--70-- Warm
--50--/--65--65-- Safe
--25--/--40--40-- Cool

Not found data for E8.... series

If I've interpreted this correctly a CPU case temp of upto 50C is fine & cores at 65C. The temps I posted in previous post are at 3.6GHz OC. The auto speedfan control on my Shuttle defaults to keeping fan speed low until cores get to 75C I think and usually only running at 750-900RPM

Re: E8400 - where to buy..?

Got mine from Eclipse, ordered around 1pm and it arrived the next day. Price was 135 shipped, I think. Was the only place that had them in when I was looking back in late January. Ordered over the phone though, "usually in stock" is a bit vague for my liking

Not the one that came with the E8400 as the Shuttle has its own efficient ICE heat pipe type cooler as standard. A conventional cooler wouldn't fit.

Shuttle CPU cooler:

The grill part fits in the fan housing (top LHS pic):

I've gone for the E8500, it should clock higher than the E8400?! Didn't want to wait for the E8400.

Tekheads and Aria had some in as well.

I ended up getting a Xeon 3075 last week, so I'm not about to change now....
