Absolutely, that's a great processor for the price.

Even if you are not going to upgrade your own computer with it, buy it anyway and sell it on for £50-£70.

Be aware that the Q6600 may need a better heatsink than the E6550.

I have a Q6600. I got one when they came out and they were quite pricey, but looked at by many as one of the best Procs for overclocking for years. I overclocked mine dramatically (not that I am recomending this) and had it running very stable at well over 3ghz. I have since set back as I don't play games like Crysis anymore and it runs really fast for everything I need to do.

Fabulous processor and in the years since it was released - we haven't seen the development of processors we saw in the years before, so it is more than capabale even in today's market.

In terms of stability this is rock solid too. I tinker a lot with my system, but I have had BSOD and Freeze ups so rarely that I could probably count them on one hand.

Go for it!

What MOBO by the way?

Snap it off your friend quick, that's a bargain. You could easily sell your E6550 for £25 too. Just be sure it's on your motherboards support list, you may need to do a bios update before installing it though.

Unlikely you'll need a BIOS update as the 1333 FSB E6550 was launched after the 1066FSB Q6600. DO IT! As long as you can cool it
