Re: Intel viiv technology

Intel Viiv is (was) just a name dreamt up by intel, that didn't really do anything.

I'm guessing that the 2 computers that you are looking at are actually the same thing (CPU is the same, check the rest of the specs).

Dell are ok, the only trouble with them is that they can use bits that if they break are hard to get replacements for... prime example is the case and motherboard. They can use BTX style motherboards, which mount different to standard ATX motherboards. So if you get a problem chances are you will have to go back to them for repairs (expensive).

how much is the PC you are looking at?
what will you be doing with it (gaming, surfing internet, video/picture editing, etc)?
Do you have a version of windows already, or are you looking for an all in one package?

Re: Intel viiv technology

Hey dion 6, I was googling on information about the viva technology too until I came across your post. I'm also looking to buy a new PC and was interesting in the dell system.

I agree with you that Dell's PCs are very uniquely built. I've had a Dell PC in the past. It's hard to replace the case and the motherboard.

But problem is that I haven't come across any decent price that beats Dell. Do you know any place where they sell high-spec cheap PCs? I'll be mostly playing latest 3D games on it, surfing the net (in that order!).

Cheers.

Hi spec PC's simply don't come cheap - especially if it is used as a gaming PC. The best value for money option is to build it yourself - that way you get exactly what you want in it and the prices are normally cheaper than a similar spec PC from the likes of Dell. You also have the chance to put better quality parts inside that should last longer than the Dell. For example I have just bought the parts to build my next PC and several of them have 3 or more years warrenty, but you will pay through the nose for 3 year extended warrenty from anyone such as Dell.

Mark.

Re: Intel viiv technology

people always seem blinded by the processor...

most games are graphics card limited these days, especially with the core2 duos around.

If i was looking to buy a cheap gaming computer then I would be looking for something like an E4500 or E6320 CPU, 1 or 2 Gb ram and an 8800GT 256Mb or 3850 256Mb graphics card.
