Case Options for a Windows Home Server PC

Hi,

I'm thinking about putting together a server PC to run Windows Home Server on.

It doesn't need much in the way of fast hardware and only 1 optical but I do need it to hold at least 4 hard drives and be as quiet as possible.

The other major factor is size. Ideally it would be as small as possible. I intend to use a mATX motherboard.

There are number of "full sized" options but I was hoping for something about the size of 2 shuttles.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Take a look at xcase.co.uk they've got pretty much everything in the way of cases

Re: Case Options for a Windows Home Server PC

If you're talking something the size of two shuttles, then you are virtually looking at a midi case.
That's with me at this moment looking at my SN25P shuttle and Akasa Eclipse case.

You could get a mini-atx case and fit the extra drives into spare 5.25" bays, however then you may have a problem with cooling by having everything crammed in there.

My Akasa Eclipse (and others) will fit 3-4 HDDs in the dedicated bay at the bottom, they are actively cooled by the front 120mm intake fan.

Does the case HAVE to be small or something that you just want?

Thanks Tinners and 1902

The original idea was to have it in the house so small and quiet would be a necessity given the sheer amount of gear I already have there

Having nearly made myself ill looking at case after case - God's Teeth, I didn't know there were so many! - I'm now thinking of a "normal" case and sticking it in the garage!

Will work out cheaper too I think.

I haven't given up on the small and quiet option. If I see the right case I'll prob go that way but if not then it can whirr away in the garage I guess!
