Installing a M/B

When installing a M/B am I just to screw down to the case or should there be washers on both sides of the board ?
Also the brass screws I got with the case that can then be inserted with another screw are they just for height variations ?

the little brass risers should be input into the corresponding holes on the backing of the case and then the motherboard screwed into those brass risers. no washers needed.

Re: Installing a M/B

yeah whatever you do make sure
a) you use the motherboard standoffs so you dont short the motherboard to the case, and
b) you're standoffs line up with the holes in the board, and there aren't any which are touching the board in other places

Re: Installing a M/B

Slightly off topic (although I did have a scare last night when I thought I had no spacers to build my new PC!), I've just put together a new machine using an Abit FATALITY FP-IN9 (SLI Socket 775 NF650i DDR2 ATX) motherboard and wondered if someone could help. I'm trying to use the onboard sound, but when I plug into the line out nothing happens. Is there a setting I'm missing somewhere?

Also, in my device manager I have a warning that I have an unknown PCI device - only plugged in devices are already accounted for so not sure if this is connected to the sound problem as my lan didn't work until I fixed a similar issue? Tried installing the motherboard supplied sound drivers but this makes no difference as the device still comes up as unrecognised- Help!

Re: Installing a M/B

I had this exact problem with a friends PC I rebuilt. there was an unknown PCI device which turned out to be the onboard sound. I got onto the Mobo makers web site and downloaded the latest drivers and all worked after that (drivers on CD didn't work - had to get the latest version).

Mark.

Re: Installing a M/B

Thanks Bad Bandit - Straight home and downloaded the drivers - hadn't even flagged the install as finished and sounds coming out of the speakers! You're a star.
