Which cpu (2 choices)

Intel Pentium D 915 (2.80GHz) Socket 775 FSB800 2x2MB Retail Boxed Processor

OR

Intel Pentium Dual Core E2180 2GHz Socket 775 800MHz FSB L2 1MB Cache Retail Box Processor

Both the same price so which is best for general use and game play ?

No contest. Go for E2180. But make sure your MB supports it.

Re: Which cpu (2 choices)

The E2140 runs slower than the 2.8ghz Pentium so how come the E2140 is still faster ?

The E2140 is based on the Intel Core microarchitecture whilst the 9xx is based on the old Intel NetBurst Microarchitecture.

There are lots of benchmarks in "Game Over? Core 2 Duo Knocks Out Athlon 64" on Tom's Hardware website.

Re: Which cpu (2 choices)

Can I put this on in the mix as well,

Intel Pentium Dual Core E2180 2GHz Socket 775 800MHz FSB L2 1MB Cache Retail Box Processor

vs

Intel Pentium 4 661 Socket 775 3.6GHz 800MHz FSB L2 2MB Cache OEM Processor

Ill be using the pc for games and do not have a lot of multi tasking to do so which would be better for games if I limit what runs in the background ?

You can also overclock the living hell out of it with an aftermarket cooler. Google around for overclocking that cpu. I've read you can get 3mhz plus!
