HDMI mobo

I have a abit an-m2hd and just can't get anything better than stereo over the HDMI so far.

Is there a mobo that can pass on multi channel HD audio over hdmi?

i'm not bothered if it's amd or intel, matx or atx, as my current one can move to the plasma in the lounge. Hence i'll build another one for the cinema room

help me

Re: HDMI mobo

Guys,

There currently aren't any HDMI MoBo's that can do HD audio as bitstream via HDMI and both nVIDIA and ATi are still limited to 2-channel LPCM (48KHz). Intel G33/G35 can do multi-channel LPCM but I don't know of anyone that's tested it with PowerDVD yet to see if they allow it. It should work according to an expert on AVSForum but I'd like to hear from someone that's done it.

Cheers,

Wo0zy.

But do the Intel IGP's have any support for hardware HD video processing like Nvidia Purevideo HD ?

If you mean HD acceleration then no. But nVIDIA integrated solutions don't either at present despite what the specs say. There are a lot of unhappy people complaining about this

Both solutions currently need a very good CPU for HD playback (especially AVC).

The nVIDIA options have better deinterlacing than current G33 options but G35 should address this. Of course this only matters if you're viewing interlaced content

Re: HDMI mobo

motherboard arrived cpu cooler and q6600 with 2gb of GeIl pc6400.

now have a single hmdi lead from htpc to amp and get dd and dts over it.

stereo is sent as multi channel though

Warning though, can't get bluray to play - says the gfx card is not hdcp !!!! -not that worried at the mo as assume this is a driver issue.

otherwise, it is very very quick, stable and quiet.

If anyone knows a solution to the multi-channel and hdcp please let me know.

A couple of questions mate

1. I assume you're running Vista not XP? If XP you wont be able to playback BD or HD DVD. If Vista, which driver version do you have and what build of PowerDVD? The Driver/PDVD combo is very "fussy" with Intel IGP.

2. Are you saying you get Multi-channel PCM not Stereo for all sources? Any chance you can clarify this?

Re: HDMI mobo

yeah it is vista, have version 3319a on powerdvd, have the latest video driver that vista gave me - struggling to find where you download/check with intel.

Decided to use anydvd hd to get around the hdcp handshake issue for the meantime, so at least can play hddvd/blu-ray.

My onkyo says dts/dd correctly, however just shows "multichannel" on everything else - seem to have lost any dd prologic/music etc.

I'll try some more films soon.

Re: HDMI mobo

tried another film this morning and "yes" do get the full 5.1 - gonna think about re-wiring room for 7.1 now as it sounded awesome - RIP DVD....................

Seems there is a known issue with intel and hdmi repeaters, which can give HDCP failure and when switching sources cause a drop to 800x600 res.

I have downloaded the latest intel g35 driver that was released this month but not installed yet.

On my to-do-list :-

get 24fps working if possible - i know from a mate's tivx that this does work with my mitsh LCD projector.

Load new intel driver if newer that the update version

Get some more blu-ray/hd dvd's to watch - he he

Re: HDMI mobo
