Asus M2A-VM HDMI - Can't get 1366 x 768 resolution through VGA?

Hi I've got a HTPC based on a ASUS M2A-VM HDMI motherboard.

Unfortunately it doesn't seem to support 1366 x 768 resolution through VGA (and whilst I appreciate this isn't a True PC resolution and I might only only be able to get 1360 x 768) the closest I can get at the moment is 1280 x 768.

I have tried the HDMI connection as well but that outputs 720p (1280 x 720).

Any idea's?

Can't you set a custom resolution in the driver settings?

Haven't used this MBD, but your problem could be to do with the display you are connecting rather than the gfx card.
These days, gfx cards check the attached display's capabilities - the display answers this request by supplying the info programmed into it's EDID chip.
Sounds OK - but not when loads of display manufacturers appear to be incapable of programming the EDIDs in their displays correctly - TVs are the main culprits.
Try using Powerstrip - this will allow you to override the EDID data, and set any resolution you want - of course, the catch is that the display must actually support the resolution you are wanting to use. It's not unknown for LCD TVs, for instance, to be 1366x768 native, but then refuse to accept this resolution as an input in any way shape or form - it may be, for instance, 720p or 1080i at 50/60Hz only on the HDMI (maybe 1080p now as well), and 1024x768 at 60/72/75/85 on the VGA - no idea why some makers decided to do this (a penny pinching cost saving perhaps), but nevertheless, they've done it!

Which display are you connecting it to?

Re: Asus M2A-VM HDMI - Can't get 1366 x 768 resolution through VGA?

Thanks for the info - I didn't realise the resolutions could change with the display.

I'm currently using a Panasonic TH37PX70 Plasma which is 1024 x 720 resolution.
It accepts a standard 1024 x 768 XGA resolution over VGA which because of the rectangular pixels (4:3 resolution on a 16:9 screen) makes the Desktop a bit flattened. However thankfully Vista Media Center seems to understands what is going on and TV displays fine.

I was just thinking ahead about getting a 2nd bigger Plasma for the lounge and maybe either moving the current HTPC, or getting another, or getting a Vista Extender when they finally arrive. I was looking at a 50inch Plasma (Ideally I would want a 46 inch Plasma but they only seem to jump from 42 to 50 inch) which has 1366 x 768 resolution and wondering if I could display that resolution.

It mentions it has Intergrated ATI Radeon X1250-based graphics and I know how to select 'List All Modes' in the 'Control Panel' 'Display' but don't know how manually select resoluitions.

http://www.mediapc.tv/index1.html

I ordered a A-4800F Media Center PC from these guys (I added another 1GB of Ram, BlackGold Dual Freeview and Vista Home Premium).

Very pleased with the HTPC which has big slow fans and is pretty quiet (quieter than my friends Sky+ box).

Mine used this motherboard (although I'm not sure if they all do) but I think you can also buy this motherboard from them on its own.

Use Powerstrip. Works great with ATi Graphics solutions
