PCI graphics card in a Asus p5k motherboard

On bootup can an Asus p5k motherboard or other modern socket 775 motherboards "see" a PCI graphics card ?

I need to know as i'll be getting a 2nd hand one soon which the seller says may or may not work.

if you put the pci-e gfx card in the motherboard and you switch it on and you "see" the boot screen on the monitor then it's working!

That would be the logical thing to happen, but at the moment i'm thinking of getting one but i'm not sure if it will or wont work, if it wont work i wont waste my money in buying it as i cant get a refund on it.

My current 4 year old AMD motherboard uses AGP but the bios can "see" and use a PCI graphics card logically this should be the same for newer motherboards but I'm not 100% sure hence my question.

Er....he said PCI graphics card, not PCI-E, but the answer is still yes. However, i didn't think any decent VGA cards were PCI?!?!?

I have a 9 year old 8mb ATI Xpert@play graphics card some where, i would never use that on my PC full time i would just want to see if the motherboard worked if it did then great i'll start saving for new/2nd hand Nvidia 7600 GT or ATI 1800 as both cards would be much faster than the 256mb ATI 9600 Pro i have now.

Personally, i would never build a PC bit by bit. Simply because by the time you've purchased your last item, the first item you purchased will have dropped in value, and you won't have even used it.

Better to save up til you have enough for all the components, and pay the best price possible.

Wish i could save up but i cant, I'm on a set budget which will never go up.

I'm not thinking of selling my bits after i've used them and what ever i build will be faster than what i have.

Being on o budget the only course of action i have is to build things bit by bit as over time prices of items i want will drop and in the normal websites such as novatech etc they do trouble is bidding on e-bay your budget isnt set in stone as some one ALWAYS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! outbids you or and pays hare brain prices for 2nd hand items with NO warranty........ you loose that item and you have to start from square one and you have to keep on going until god knows when............

Or some new person pushes the price up to £1 below your maximum budget so your stuffed as you have to pay postage on top of all that.................so again with cost of postage your budget is blown.................. and you AGAIN have to start from square one and you have to keep on going until god knows when............
