22" TFT Wanted

Hi all
I am in the market for a 22" TFT. It must have DVI and I have a absolute maximum budget of £150.

I have done A LOT of searching through various sites and have found this one...

Hyundai 'Blue' H224W

It seems to cost *around* £125 inc VAT and Del at most places. It also mentioned that is has HDCP. Can someone briefly explain what this is? Is it worth getting a TFT with this or do they all have it but not necessarily mention it in the specs?

The other TFT I have found is the Acer X222W 22" which has DVI but apparently not HDCP - it costs about £110.

Any advice on the 2 models I have mentioned or anything else within budget would be greatly appreciated!

Re: 22" TFT Wanted

HDCP is a type of content protection. It is used to "protect" the signals going through HDMI/DVI/DisplayPort.

If your monitor is HDCP certified it is able to play anything that is protected by a HDCP signal. Things like High Defintion movies

I think HDCP stands for High Definition Content Protection.

Re: 22" TFT Wanted

so is this HDCP thing important then? I plan to only use this with my PC but potentially I may be watch HD content through it from a PC Blu Ray - or XBOX etc. Does that mean I HAVE to buy one with HDCP or do all widescreen DVI monitors have this and are able to play HD content? Sorry! Am confused!

This is the bit that will potentially require HDCP. HDCP is the default protection for HD sources.

Have a look at the BenQ E2200HDA. The A bit is important here, as it's the non-HDMI version of the E2200HD that's not currently in stock anywhere, but the A version is and it's cheaper

You can find this for well in your budget, at around £125-130.

The extra benefit of this is it's a Full HD 16:9 1080p monitor, so DVD's etc will play in their native widescreen format

Re: 22" TFT Wanted

Not all monitors are HDCP compliant. HDCP only applies to encrypted content (but most is) and then only if you're using a digital link to your monitor (HDMI or DVI). Further, your graphics card has also to be HDCP compliant when using a digital connection.

You can avoid this by using something like AnyDVD software to remove the encryption as the DVD plays. But not all titles will work although Slysoft (who make AnyDVD) are constantly improving AnyDVD.

Or you can use an analogue VGA connection and avoid the problem altogether

Re: 22" TFT Wanted

cheers for the info fellas. I think I should go for a HDCP monitor as I will definetely be using DVI. Next question, is there any benefit to using HDMI over DVI or are they pretty much the same? Most, in fact none, of the 22" TFTs I have been looking at seem to have HDMI connections so the decision might have been made for me already.

That BenQ monitor looks excellent but I can't seem to find it anywhere to buy!

Edit - I can find it but am I right in saying the "A" monitor does not have DVI either? Just VGA?

BENQ E2200HDA 21.5 LCD Black Glossy Widescreen 16: - Misco.co.uk

And the difference between the E2200HD and E2200HDA is the A doesn't have HDMI, it just has DVI and VGA. That's the only difference

Cheers Rob, although on that link for the A BenQ it says in the specs that it has HDMI? If the A does not have HDMI that does not bother me, as long as it has DVI.

Re: 22" TFT Wanted

You're extremely lucky to get hold of that, since nowhere in the UK has had stock of the non-A and BenQ kept pushing back the release date! Excellent timing to place an order, also excellent you got the one with the HDMI port as that will server you well for a long time

Exactly, am over the moon. I saw them in stock at work at 3.30pm but decided not to buy, I then had a change of heart and went to buy it at 4pm and was told there was none in stock! I was gutted!

Got back and had another check and lo and behold there was 6 in stock. Not sure how many are left now?

BenQ E2200HD 22" TFT Monitor 1920x1080 300cd/m2 10000:1 (dynamic) 2ms Multimedia 16:9 HDMI/DVI-D/VGA Glossy Black - Ebuyer

Still 5 left in!

I just want to clarify because I just took delivery of a E2200HDA. It does NOT have a DVI input, only VGA.
