19" 4:3 lcd monitor for Mame cabinet

As the title suggests. I need a monitor of the description above for a Cocktail cabinet (sit-down), so the viewing angle needs to be good as I will be sitting at a fairly steep angle to the bottom of it.

I have heard of a trick where you can upside down mount the lcd giving you a better viewing angle but would rather get one with a decent viewing angle straight out the box. Anything anyone can recommend?

I don't want to use a CRT and arcade monitors are stupidly overpriced.

4:3 monitor

What did you end up with? I'm in the same position. My CRT trinitron crapped out and want to go LCD, but wasn't sure about refresh rates and if I could just use a 16:9 and it would crop instead of stretch.
thanks.

Resizing depends on the monitor but many will offer you the option to use 1:1, aspect scaling or stretch.. If in doubt you can usually find the manual detailing the monitor's controls on their websites.

What are the concerns you have about refresh rate?

I don't know. I remember something about older games having a slow refresh rate and the newer monitors not handling that well.
I guess my main concern is around viewing angle since this is a cocktail.
Was thinking something like this -
Viewsonic 19" monitor - VP930b

Thanks. I was just fishing for a particular spec or menu option if it was to be used for mame.

I'm not into the arcade scene but I would imagine the emulator should be able to handle any special rendering requirements. Films are the same, they run at 24Hz so don't easily map to a 60hz monitor but media player software does the jiggery pokery.

The VP930b was an Au Optronics VA screen wasn't it? If so the viewing angles should be decent and I believe that generation suffered fairly minimal black crush.
