I'm due an Orange upgrade - what should I get??

Hi all,

I'm now due a free handset upgrade on my Orange phone (work), but have no idea what the current trends are in the way of handsets. I've currently got a Nokia 6300, which is pretty boring/dull, so looking for something with a bit of wow factor.

MP3 playing not important at all, as I just wouldn't use it. Really after something perhaps with a decent camera (to use as a point & shoot), and more importantly good battery life.

Anyone got any pointers?? I'm not fussed on brand, so will consider anything from Nokia/Samsung/Sony Ericsson.

Thanks in advance,

Buy your own handset and ask them for a reduced line rental instead.

Im with Three, for my first contract renewal I kept my existing phone and I got my contract down to £5 a month for 500mins and 100 texts.

That is a life time offer so it will never go up again.

Last year they tried to fob me off with a cheap £40 handset, in the end I managed to get a £150 Nokia 6500, it was a referb but in perfect condition.

Dont be affraid to DEMAND more than they offer.

Thanks for your reply Forge, but seeing as the company I work for pick up the bill, I'm not too fussed on reducing the monthly rental and buying a handset myself.

Just been reading about the Samsung Pixon which looks pretty good. Anyone any experience/comments on this phone??

Re: I'm due an Orange upgrade - what should I get??

Hi there,

I would personally recommend the Sony Ericsson C905, the camera is amazing and it has a host of features such as GPS and WiFi.

I too had a Nokia 6300, brilliant phones, slim and did the job (making/receiving calls) to a high level of satisfaction. However, as I just joined Orange, I got a Nokia 5800 Xpress but I dont really get on with touch screen, so I sold it and managed to get a new Sony C905 from a friend.

I wanted a decent camera with a Xenon flash, it amazes me how Nokia only have 2 (I can think of) phones with this, the N82 and the 6220 Classic.

I found on recent trips I had a pocket full of keys, cash, digi camera and phone, to reduce this by one is a positive step for me.

I am getting used to the nuances of aving a Sony again, but simply put the camera is amazing.

One thing I will say is debrand your phone when you get it. If its from Orange it will probably be full of crap when you get it, but use the Da Vinci client to derband, it costs about £9.50 and is well worth it.

The problem you have is generally more features means moor battery life. I simply switch off the 3G option on my handset so it only uses GSM and the battery life is fine.

Hope this has been of help.

bad bad bad choice! it's a sony ericsson. they're well known for being unreliable. you should read what retailers and networks think of them and their large number of returns from buggy handsets here (one of those includes the notoriously unreliable c905):

Our sister site, Mobile News, reports that Sony Ericsson is still experiencing quality control issues with many of its handsets - but for the first time, Sony Ericsson is actually acknowledging it has a problem.

Dealers have raised serious questions over the build quality of Sony Ericsson handsets after widespread problems with the C905, its latest high-end device.

Retail staff have said they are anxious about selling Sony Ericsson’s current handsets on the back of an exceptionally high level of returns of the manufacturer’s recent handsets.

Freezing and crashing issues beleaguered the C902, the W910i and the K850i in the summer, with some retailers claiming as many as 50% of handsets were being returned in some areas.

The software faults could mean that future Sony Ericsson customers will be more cautious about taking on new hardware.

Saying that though, I've had Sony Ericssons in the past and been very impressed with every one I've had. Hopefully I'll not have any problems with this 905 :fingerscrossed:

i`ve had SE for age`s, apart from the last 6 months or so, but i`ve had the K750, W800, W810I and the K850, i`ve never had a prob with any of them but my mate went through 2 K850`s, if the iphone was not as good as it was i would have this C905 as it looks wicked, and with a camera like that your sorted. how are u getting on with it???
