02 xda zest unlocking

I have been told that the payg Zest is locked to 02 network,I need one of these for a freind outside the UK any ideas how I can get it unlocked? Just to add the guy in the 02 shop told me if I have it unlocked and 02 find out they will brick the phone,anyone else heard of this???

If you have another SIM it might be worth trying it.

AFAIK the XDAs don't tend to be locked. Well the other HTC rebraded ones certainly aren't (I'm using an XDA Orbit2 on Orange) Not 100% sure on the zest though.

Edit: just done a quick google and the PAYG zest is NOT carrier locked. so no need to unlock it
