N95 Memory Card

I am need of a new memory card (Micro SDHC) for a Nokia N95, and was wondering what the fastest type I can get is. Looking at 8GB in size, but wasn't sure if there are Ultra type cards in this range, that work in the phone and are faster with data transfer etc.

Re: N95 Memory Card

As you're probably aware the HDSC cards are catagorised in different classes, eg class 2, 4, 6. The greater the speed, the faster the data transfer.

However as the N95 is an older phone, the highest class card you will be able to use is a class 4 HSDC card. Unfortunately the N95 wouldn't be able to differentiate between a class 4 and a class 6 unlike the newer Nokia phones such as the N96 and N85.

Re: N95 Memory Card

Thanks for that, do you know what the best format to use is?
I've heard for an 8gb card FAT32 is most suitable, is this correct?

Re: N95 Memory Card

It is an 8gig card I have in my N95, no idea about the formating though. I thought FA32 had a 4 gig limit. I'll need to look and see if I actually have 8gig available from my memory card!!!!

Re: N95 Memory Card

I got a Sandisk Micro SD HC 8GB Memory Card for £12.99 delivered from Play.com for my N95.

It works great.

No need to format it, just put it in your phone and it will do the rest automatically.

The 4GB limit of FAT32 is per file, meaning the biggest file size it can deal with is 4GB. The partition size limit is 2TB (ignoring the artificially imposed limit of 32GB that Microsoft put in place to sway you towards NTFS for larger drives).

Ernie Peters
- When you get the memory card, insert it into the phone and in the memory card utility you'll find an option to 'Format Memory Card'. Do this and the phone will format it in the way it sees best. I'm 99% certain this is FAT32, but let the phone do the hard work for you
