N95-1 So good but bad at same time!

Hi,

Sorry if there is a tread for this, if so please move mods. I did search through 15 pages but couldn't find an answer.

Anyway, has anyone else got an original N95 that is constantly crashing???

I can't use the camera, video, or internet without a guaranteed crash back to the Nokia white screen. Maps is also 50/50, it will often lock. I bought a months worth of navigation last month and used it on a trip to the lake district. Nokia Maps crashed 6 times in the space of 2 hours, all in areas when I needed it most too!!!

I love the phone, and still have a year on my contract but it's really really starting to ******* me off!

I have installed the latest firmware, it's been the same before & after too.

Just interested in hearing if anyone else finds the same really.

Re: N95-1 So good but bad at same time!

It's reasons like this that I have stopped using Nokia "Smart Phones" I bought my gf the N73 and then the N95 and she had nothing but similar problems with it. In the end she got my old iPhone, problem solved lol.

I don't think the N95 was as bad as the 73 though. The 73 had a tendancy to freeze for 4 mins if you sent a text

Re: N95-1 So good but bad at same time!

If its regularly crashing it sounds like a hardware fault.

(The N73 text issue was in the first version of the firmware and can be cured by downloading an 8Kb file from Nokia)

They will just tell you to take it to a Nokia repair centre.

That's probably your best option. Nokia have a Freepost reapir option to send to their service centre. Turnaround time is usually around 3-4 days. Everytime I've used this service i get a fully refurbished (like brand new) phone back that has my old IMEI number but looks just like a brand new phone to me

Re: N95-1 So good but bad at same time!

Thanks, I'd be happy if they did send me a refurb, as long as something can be done to stop it restarting!!!

I assume you really need to wait for a reply from them before sending off for repair? I don't have a repair centre local to me so I'd have to take the post option.

No just pop your N95 in a padded bag with a completed repair form and post to Nokia

form at step 2 at bottom of page here

(back up your phone before you send it off as it will come back wiped though )

That's excellent, I'll do that on Monday I reckon, need to keep hold of it for 'phone' duties over the weekend. It still manages that ok

Thanks guys.

Re: N95-1 So good but bad at same time!

Well I had the phone sent back to me but they did not repair it because I have updated the firmware to the latest one (suggested by Nokia via text message) and they said it's now out of Warranty!!!

I've emailed them again for an answer but so far no reply.

Is it debranded with incorrect firmware for your operator? If so then yes they can refuse to repair. If not then give them a call.

How long have you had the phone? EU warranty is two years but it could have been on a shelf for a while before you got it. If it's under two years old send them a copy of your proof of purchase as well.

I've had it 6 months, sent with proof of purchase too. They said the firmware was too new???? Mad.

I bought it from Phones4U (stupid I know) so it's unbranded and the firmware update was recommended by Nokia not O2 but saying that it's Nokia who are supposed to be fixing it!

Going to give them a chance to reply to my email otherwise I'll be calling them tomorrow.
