Question Contract questions and annoying witheld calls....

Ok guys and girls i have 3 questions

1. My psycho ex keeps calling me on witheld 80+ callls a day. i have a samsung and ive blocked her numbers but cant block witheld. In the past year ive called o2 2 or 3 times and they give me the same answer which is 'we cant even block normal numbers let alone witheld. Its completely out of our control' When asked a way around this because its restricting me using my phone as it dies half way through the day they say 'we can change your number' or 'call the police' well number 1. my number is expensive i paid gd money for it as its a platinum number. and number 2. the police will prob say the same thing. After doing some google searches i see alot of o2 customers have had the same issue and o2 have done something about it. So why wont they for me?

2. Im on o2 on a 18 month contract, this is my first ever contract so im not 100% sure on everything. But my question is that my contract expires in 4 months time. im paying £50 a month on a contract with 1500 anytime mins and 600 texts. When i start recieving calls from o2 to renew my contract, what kind of deals am i going to be recieving? a friend of mine was on a £30 a month and got offered it for £7.50 a month after haggling. So should i be prepared to haggle down to £20/£25 a month? and if i do get it to 20/25 will i be paying my full original price and claim the rest with cashback or will it be set at 20/25...?

3. Also if i didnt want to renew my contract can i keep my number? if so how? wil li still be entitled to it when it passes 18 months?

Question 2. You could haggle them down but I dont know how much to. But you wouldn't pay the price you was paying before you would just pay the price they have offered. You dont need to claim cash back. Well I am cetain about this.

3. Yes you keep your number even after the 18 months even if you went to pay as you go with 02. If you wanted to switch to another network you would have to ask for your PAC and tell the new provider it to keep your number. Pac is a number that ports the number over to different networks when moving.

Re: Contract questions and annoying witheld calls....

As much as I'm loathe to get the police involved in anything, that is harrassment mate, simple as, in my book.
I'd guess that if you insisted that you didn't want to change your number (and why should you?) they'd have to get involved, even if it's only a warning to begin with.
That's certainly the route I'd be looking at, FWIW.

80+ a day?
You have my sympathy.

Re: Contract questions and annoying witheld calls....

Thanks for comments.

I hate using the police i think ive had 3 crimes against me including robbery in the last 4 years and ive not reported it.

I recently had a tv stolen from my work van 6 months ago and i had to call the police as it was a work van. Police hasnt done anything or contacted me back to this day. I told them i saw 2 boys being suspiscious around the van and were still on the same street when i called the police but they didnt even bother coming out!!

So i dont see what the police would do regarding the harrassment? I mean o2 say the police will contact o2 then they can sort out who it is calling from there. Doing a google search ppl in other european countries can get witheld numbers barred. Why cant we? why is the uk phone networks behind compared to every other country on the planet?

This is precisely why they would get involved, IMO; because it's an easy one for them.
Now this is not fact, but an educated guess;

You inform the police, who having received a complaint, can now ask O2 to log all calls made from and sent to your phone. So O2 now have to comply (it's easy for them). Piece of p*** job for plod, as they don't actually have to do anything. No manpower or costs involved and it gets a result

Getting involved with kids who might/might not have been involved in the van thing is far too much bother.
"What? calling two men out, involving half a day filling out forms? That's not cost effective, me old son. Real crimes cost far too much for us to get involved."

I guess you can tell I'm very cynical about the police, as are most people, I suppose

Seriously, that's the way to go, IMO.

Some phones allow you to block withheld numbers. My viewty allows me to do that, and so do many smartphones and other LGs.

i don't see why not, but you will have to buy a separate application to allow that, as you will with most other smartphones.

the viewty and some other LGs are the only dumbphones that allow you to block withheld numbers that i'm aware of.

Hi, Don't know if this will help but I had the same problem, getting mithered by calls from withled telemarketing calls. Phoned Orange etc. cant do anything, and like you I have a special number and didnt want to lose it.

I have an N95 and i used an application called 'Call Filter'. You can set it to block specific numbers, or an unnamed number. It needs to be activated and leave it running in the background, it then routes the call direct to voicemail if you it available.

Google it, it helped me out.
Hope this helps

note to Mods, if iv infringed any 'third party software rules' please accept my apologies and edit appropriatley. I am not affiliated with Call Filter and other call blockig software is available fom all god retailers.... (and probably most bad ones as well )

Re: Contract questions and annoying witheld calls....

Nokia provide Call Filter free of charge to people who join S60.com. Its an essential program in my view.

O2 are correct, they (and all the UK networks) are unable to block calls to your handset. I would definitely contact the police as they are the only ones who are able to request details of witheld numbers. You should keep a log of the times that you are rung (plus any text messages) as they will need that. What usually happens is that the person is given a warning and if they continue they will be prosecuted, have phone service withdrawn, fined and even imprisoned.
