"Incomplete message" - broken texts?!

I've recently downgraded to a Samsung E590 from a Sony Ericsson K800. I'm still on Orange PAYG.

When someone sends a long text to the Samsung phone I get no alert (ie no vibrate/tone) and the message is split in two - the first half is a "normal" text which I can read, but it's only the first 160 characters I assume. The second half is a text that says "Incomplete message" and I can't even open it.

I never had this issue with the Sony Ericsson, or any of the phones I've owned before it? I'm on the same contract as I was when I owned that phone.

There's plenty of memory available on the phone.
I can send/recieve MMS (pic/video messages) with no problems.

Any ideas?

Re: "Incomplete message" - broken texts?!

This isn't much help, but this occurs quite often with some (firmware versions of) Samsung phones. Its been reported with various handsets, I don't understand the full details but its to do with the signalling between the handset and the message centre. Sometimes turning the phone off and on will cause the second part to appear. You might also find that text messaging gets slower and slower and messages just appear in the Inbox without an Alert. There may be a firmware upgrade that alleviates the problem. I would contact Samsung or your service provider.

Sorry I can't be more help.

Re: "Incomplete message" - broken texts?!

it's almost always a network issue. i used to get it a lot on my old nokia 3310 about 8-10 years ago, but i haven't had it in any great amounts on any handset since. in fact, i can't remember specifically the last time it's happened. i think that it was a coincidence of the issue occurring and me owning that handset, rather than it being something inherent within the nokia.

i'm also on orange.
