Three contract

Just wondered if anyone knows the ins and outs of cancelling a 3 contract due to poor signal.

I have just moved house, about a mile across a village and now have no signal at my home. I am 6 months into an 18 month contract. Never had any problems with the signal previously but now I can't use the phone at home and if I do manage to make a calll it drops the call.

Three have admited that I am in a poor signal area and said there is nothing they can do about it, they have quoted £350 to cancel the contract, The best idea they came up with is to give the phone to a friend to pay the contract on!!!!!!

I agree.

Whilst I can quite understand the frustration at not being able to use the handset at home. I can also see Three's point of view. None of the networks promise universal coverage, and all provide coverage checkers to use before commiting to a contract. Three can't be responsible for you moving, especially when the phone is mobile and will still work elsewhere.
Selling the contract on, is possible and there are websites which will do this. Another option is to sell the handset and use this towards paying off the contract.
You could write a polite, courteous letter to Three asking if they could meet you halfway (i.e. pay off the contract with a lower amount). Be open and honest with them, as anything they offer will be a goodwill gesture.
Good luck with it, I hope you manage to sort something.

Re: Three contract

Unfortunately like mentioned 3 are not obliged to cancel your contract, if this way a fixed landline problem you would have different wrights under the consumers act but not with mobiles. You as a purchaser are responsible for making sure that you are happy with the wording of the contract (really how many people really do this before signing on the dotted line) before entering into it.
Hopefully they will come to a better arraignment with you, but they are within their rights to charge you for the full term.
Good luck.

Re: Three contract

Hi,

Given that 3 piggy back on Orange(or at least I believe they still do) you probably won't manage much better covergae with another provider.

it does suck but unfortunately there isn't much they can do about it, same as when you move house to a new area where dsl speeds are awful due to distance from the exchange.

Yeah your right they operate off of the Orange network when outwith their own network.
Phones 4U were always really helpful when trying to promote Three, even gave me a loan PAYG to check if the coverage was alright or not.

Re: Three contract

3 have poor customer services. It like they are reading from a script rather than being human. You good try the ombudsmen if the signal in the same area has degraded...otherwise dont' see how you could get out.

Re: Three contract

If they won't let you out which would be highly unlikely then the best thing to do is downgrade your contract each month as many times as they'll let you and then pay it off when it gets cheaper.

Eg £35 per month for 12 months = 420 drop down to £30 next month means 11*£5 saved next month down to £25 means another 10*£5 saved.

Don't know if this would work but could you get a cheap PAYG phone on a diff network and set the other to divert all calls to that no, at least you'll be able to receive while at home that way. Or I could just be being thick as usual.
