now looking for a new contract and phone. not really bothered what company its with as they are all much the same.

what phone do i go for?
iphone 3g (o2)
blackberry bold (orange)

or do i wait for something else, BB thunder perhaps? i probably wont wait so its a toss-up between the iphone and BB Bold? any advice or opinions would be great

I would say neither..I was in that dilemma but as soon as I saw Nokia E71. The next thing I did was to buy it.

Its a wicked phone I must say arguably the best phone/pda/gadget around. Well done to nokia.

Re: iphone 3g or blackberry bold or wait?

The Nokia looks good - but from what I can see its aimed at a totally different set of users to the iPhone.

I'm an iPhone evangelist - I love mine!

I guess it comes down to what your main usage is going to be. The N71 seems to be about media creation whereas the iPhone is designed for media consumption...

Re: iphone 3g or blackberry bold or wait?

I had the same problem - I do a lot of texting and also suffer from fat fingers.

It took a few days to get used to the touchscreen keyboard - and (if I'm honest) - you'll never text as quickly as on an old school mobile, but that said...its not much difference.

And the wrong key thing goes away after a while - even WITH fat fingers!

For me, the UI and the other attributes make it the best gadget money can buy (or get free on contract!)

Re: iphone 3g or blackberry bold or wait?

iphone is more of a gadget and a less practical phone. Without me having to big up E71 go and visit a 3 store and ask for a Demo you will find out for yourself.

And by the way I dont hate iphone as I have one too

Re: iphone 3g or blackberry bold or wait?

The whole """Which mobile should I buy""" really does my head in these days.

I have an iphone at the moment (2G) and didnt see the point in getting the 3G, cause there is NO improvement!!!!

It's 3G now? Im almost always in a WiFi Zone, so always got a fast connection.

A-GPS - I have a Satnav already!

They should of put in a 5MP camera! added MMS! added Copy and paste.

Im waiting for the Nokia N96 (16GB!) that looks amazing!

On the flip side though, I could say that I already have a digi camera so don't need an amazing one in my phone. But I don't have sat nav so GPS is handy.

It's horses for courses. Go and play in the shop and see what you like.

Re: iphone 3g or blackberry bold or wait?

I owned a 2G iphone and was recently asking myself the same question about 3G and the Bold. The iphone is great for typing on, way faster than a normalkeypad once you get used to it. The Bold looks great, fully qwerty keyboard and loads of features to boot.

In the end, I bought an HTC Diamond. Wasnt too pleased with the speed of the device at first, then I installed a custom ROM and havent looked back. Now having the phone for 2 weeks, I know I made the best choice. You have to make too many compromises when buying an iphone and thats why I would never get another!

Re: iphone 3g or blackberry bold or wait?

I had the chance to use a Bold in an Orange shop today and TBH I was not impressed as much as I thought I would be by it, its just abit too big for me (I have the Curve model) and the trackball is now not as responsive as on the older models.

also used a new Nokia E71 and whilst the size was great and it was really thin, the OS was really really reaaaaaaaaally slow, the Vodafone rep claimed it was due to the phone being brand new and that was its first use, although I do admit after about 5mins it did speed up I am not sure whether it would be as quick as the Curve, but I am tempted by it and would also be willing to use the nokia mailforexchange system which seems to be a much better deal thanyou get from blackberry

Re: iphone 3g or blackberry bold or wait?

Hi

There is no easy answer to this one. I currently have a iPhone 3G and a Blackberry Curve (would like a Bold).

iPhone
+Good Looking Phone
+Great for music and video
+Great for the internet
+Easy to get software updates via itunes
-I don't think its easy to type on
-No choice of network
-Limited 3rd party programs
-Only 2mp camera
-No MMS

Blackberry
+Real keys
+Lots of 3rd party software
+Much better for email than iPhone (you get your email as soon as it arrives on the iPhone you may have to wait until it updates. Ok Apple say that the handset will check for email all the time but that does not always happen. You will from time to time have to make the iPhone check for email.
+Copy and paste. You might think that you will never use it but. If you get an email say with directions or train times. You can copy it from the email and paste it into your calendar notes. Just makes life a bit easier.
-Blackberry service (getting your email sent to your phone) is at an extra charge.
-Blackberrys can feel a bit old in style.

You could buy a Blackberry either sim free or on ebay and then get one of the sim only contracts with a Blackberry add-on. Example O2 sim only 200 mins 400 text for £15 + £10 for unlimited Blackberry. Or T-Mobile solo £15 for 350 mins and 650 text + £7.50 for unlimited blackberry. This way you can try a Blackberry for a while. If you are not happy sell the handset on and go for an iPhone 3G on contract.

Apple so far have only made two types of phone. They are still new to the mobile phone business. I am sure that they will make great phones. I just don't think they have yet.

There will allways be a better phone due soon, you could wait forever.

Rich
