Looking for an all in one

Hi everyone,

I'm looking at upgrading my phone as I would like a digital camera and although I could buy a single purpose device, I know that it will end up simply staying at home because I forgwt it or don't want another thing to carry. A phone with a decent camera therefore seems to be the way forward for me.

I have however also got to thinking that what I would really like is something which I can also play music. The phone must be capable of playing back mp3 at the same quality as my ipod nano. I need about 8gb of storage for music alone (I need to allow further space for holding say 25 - 50 photos).

Finally, I want to phone to be thin so that it won't ruin the line of my suits when I'm at the office (god that sounds vein!).

I like the look of the Samsung F480 for example though I'm worried about the sound quality from this phone. Am I asking too much?

Ian

Nokia N95?

camera is good for a mobile phone (Carl Zeiss lens), if you google and look for reviews of the phone there are generally images taken from the camera posted within the review.

also plays music fine, storage shouldnt be a problem either.

It isnt that thin but its one of the most feature packed phones out there right now. Personally i dont find any issues placing in my pcokets.

Ive got a Tocco F480, music is fine, shows album art (small though) I have a 8Gb SD in it and that works fine. Photos on average are about 1Mb, so you only need about 50Mb for your pics.

Sound quality to me is fine, but if your an audiophile then Im not sure, but to me its ok, you can get a 3.5mm adapter to use your own headphones, and thers some equalizer functions on it to.

hope this helps, any specific questions just ask
cheers

The Nokia N82 would be another good shout, for the reasons listed above but mainly because it's slimmer than the N95. It's also more reliable and faster to use than the original N95 and on par with the N95 8GB.

Takes good quality pictures (for a phone) and music quality is good too. It can take decent sized memory cards too, so you can fill it up with whatever memory you think you need.

Trouble for me is the size factor, mate has N82, its another pocket filler!! The poster required a not too big phone, and I have to say that the N82, and N95s are defo not that!!

Re: Looking for an all in one

I've come across the Sony w980 which seems to fit the bill (at a price). I'm on pay as you go monthly with Orange...any tips on how to pick one of these up for a decent price?

Re: Looking for an all in one

My annual upgrade was due and as I am still more than happy with my N95 8Gb i grabbed a W980i and passed on to the wife as her old Samsung G600 was getting tired.

to be honest after playing with the Sony I have to say it's not a patch on my N95 8Gb.

Plus points are USB2.0 for music transfer and very good Walkman player controls/display when phone is closed.

Biggest annoyance on the W980i though for a music based phone though is the lack of a 3.5mm jack. Yes it comes with an adaptor so you can use your own headphones but the adaptor is just another cable to carry around and only has a call answer button rahte rthan the full remote you get with the N95.

Wake up Sony...3.5mm jacks please!!

I'm not sure whether they will ever get the message. I personally find it a very big disconnect to have a 'Walkman' branded phone without a 3.5mm jack and is one of the reasons that has put me off the these music focused phones in the past. They should be following Nokia's lead on this which seems to be sticking a 3.5mm socket on most of the N-series phones it release.

forgot to add it does have an FM Transmitter which is a nice touch......

but.....even more annoyingly no mini or micro USB. Only port it has is that standard Sony 'Pop' style port which is used for charging, data and audio.

Shame really as with a bit more forward thinking it could have been a really good phone. then again i suppose that's typical Sony thinking nowadays; when are Sony going to wake up and release either an MP3 player or phone that really does the 'Walkman' brand justice. they just keep missing the boat.

Re: Looking for an all in one

Hold on for the Nokia N85 out next month. Spec close to N95 but slimmer and cheaper, has a 3.5mm jack, FM transmitter, 8GB memory card included and the usual 5mp camera and DVD quality video shooting. Cost will be around £350 sim free but ebay items may be cheaper

Re: Looking for an all in one

Ok will size is what put me off the N95. The W980i looks nice and slim. I will try and hold on the for the N85 and see what that look like.

surprisingly there isn't much diference in size between the N95 8Gb and the W980 when folded.

N95 8Gb - 99x53x21mm
W980 - 92x46x16.9

Re: Looking for an all in one

Going by those dimensions I make the N95 54% bigger then. A fair amount I think.

Yep, sorry should have said. It only seems like a bit extra in each dimension but it amounts to a surprising amount of extra bulk in your pocket...

the samsung omnia definately...it has everything you need (very good 5mp camera/16gbs of memory + an expansion slot + its thin + touchscreen) and the sound quality is outstanding...i had the N91/N95 8Gb + an ipod 80gb and the omnia replaced them...and i think it has better sound quality than the devices stated previous.
