N95 abroad: voip or foreign sim?

Hi,

I'm going to the US and was wondering whether there is a good voip system that I can use to make the most of the hotel's wifi.
I'd like a system that can phone landlines/mobiles if possible.
Otherwise, would it be better to get a US sim? If so which one?

Also, is there a way to disable data connections, except for wifi (so that I don't connect via 3G by mistake).

Thanks,
