Thoughts and advice wanted on C902

Hi all.

I am able to upgrade my Sony Ericsson K800i which is currently on with O2 on 'Online 25 Texter' at £19.99 a month with 220 mins and 500 texts. I want to get the C902 or maybe even the Nokia N95, but i dont want to pay for the handset.

I'm looking at the O2 site and there is an Online 25 tariff with 600 mins and unlimited texts! So i'm getting a little screwed i think. Trouble is i have to keep my current phone...big NO NO! I do go over my £19.99 every so often so going to £25 a month i would do and carephonewarehouse have an O2 tariff O2 25 but 24 month contract and i can get 400 mins and 500 texts and the C902 handset free.

What would people do or suggest? 24 months seems a seriously long contract, but i never usually worry about changing my mobile if i'm happy with the handset. I'm more of a texter, so they are more important than the calls.

I have to agree with syko67. The way to get them to do want you want is to threaten to leave and I would expect a free handset and a major improvement on your current tariff if you do that.

You will never get a good deal from upgrades - only rententions. That department normally calls customers who ask for their PAC. Before you upgrade have a read through this thread. It's a goldmine for people in your situation:

Thanks for the replies people, just making my way through that post. Do you have to ask for 'retentions' when you call or just speak to the first line people and refuse anything they offer you until they put you through to them?

If you actually ask for retentions it kinda gives the game away that you intend to stay with the network! I can't speak for o2 but with Vodafone you will get a call from retentions once you have written to ask for your PAC.

By the way, if you ask for it, Vodafone direct sales can give 50% off line rental (with a new phone) for all but the last three months of new 12 and 18 month contracts (you can renegotiate 2 months from the end anyway). Worth bearing in mind if o2 don't give you what you want.

Been reading all day about it and will give them a call sometime tomorrow or after work Monday. I now have an idea of what i want, just need to write down some of the deals people have been given and try the 'friend got such and such' and then if they ask i'll put them towards the internet...I dont think what i want it that over the top either, i mean 250-300 mins and 1000 texts (unlimited better!) and either a free C902 or N95
