URGENT help needed - phone bought off ebay threatened with BLACKLISTING

Received a call from three saying that the phone had been blacklisted (guess i should never have bought off ebay ), and they said to fax (yes fax, who still uses them?!?) them the details of the transaction to prove i bought, and so did not steal it

Seems a bit weird though, because i received the phone in the box, unless somebody made a note of their imei number before the phone and their box was stolen, and then reported it 2 months later

I had a hunch that maybe three is doing this because i am not using the phone they gave me with the contract, or am i just being paranoid.

edit: FURTHERMORE,

i just used the checkmend imei checker (cost £3), and it said:

"We have no records to indicate that an item with indentifier ****** has been reported lost or stolen"

So what do you think stolen or not stolen?

doesnt sound like something they do. if it is reported stolen then you need to tell the police who you bought it off as it could be insurance fraud.
